There is a pulsating pain on the left side of my neck, it occurs about once every 2 minutes.
It started a few hours ago.
I put an "icy-hot" patch to try and relieve the pain; it worked for about an hour and then it stopped.

What could this possibly be?

Feel it where it is pulsating, does it feel like a muscle or ligament. You probably overworked the muscle. When my muscles burn and are overworked and really tight, sometimes they throb or pulsate. It hurts and is so annoying. I put ice on it for 15-20 min. Then moist heat 20 min. Repeat. Also take ibuprofen or acet... (tylenol) to reduce the inflamation every six hours.

Does it feel like someones hands are around your throat squeezing?

If yes.. Do you work? Physical labor? Might be Glandular fever.

I'm not really sure I'm just throwing my opinion at you. If i was you, I'd google the symptoms and see what happens. Since you know what it feels like the most it would be best to do it yourself. If not working call CVS or Walgreens or even a docters office for more opinions. If serious enough make an apointment.

Hope you feel better.
take care

It could be a number of things, but what it actually is is a message from your body that you need to see a doctor pronto.
If you want some scary scenarios, it could be an aneurysm, it could be a blood clot, it could be neurological, it could signal a stroke. Those are just a few of the possibilities. It may be none of those, but you really should get it checked out.

Not enough Info but a doctor or a chiropractor is my suggestion I personally go to the Chiropractor first but that doesn't make it the right course of action.

Most likely you have pulled your sternocleidomastoid muscle so an NSAID like ibuprofen or naproxyn should help for tonight. I would definitely see a doc and get it checked out tomorrow.
