Okay....I live in a very small cmmunity, so there isnt really anywhere to jog, and we are in a pretty heavy traffic area!
Anyways...about 20 minutes from where I live there is this huge jogging sidewalk that wraps around a bay...it last for about 4 miles! Do you think that is too far away from me to go and jog?
Maybe if I just go down there like twice a week or something?

i lost 80 pounds without a gym. i spent 20 on an adjustable reebok step and do 30 minutes of step aerobics on it just going up and down not using the dvd 30 minutes a day 6 days a week plus, 100 crunches and stregnth training with 10-12 pound dumbells which i spent around 20 more dollars on. i like the idea of doing it this way that way i never have any excuses not to workout

I bike 5-10 miles per day and swim 5 days a week in a public pool. Once you figure out traffic, turning cars, opening car doors, and common hazards, biking can be very safe. Fortunately, in Seattle, we have bike paths and can ride on side walks.

I use a stationary bike when I watch videos. Walking uphill and fast can be a very good workout. If you are in an urban setting, you'll soon prefer to walk places rather than drive a car in congestion.

For other ideas and suggestions about managing the vigor of a workout, see "aerobic exercise." I suggest that you start out at the low end of the aerobic range (heart rate that is sustained over a period of time). I suggest .5 hour to 1.0 hour five times per week.

Twice a week isn't enough. You need to exercise 30 to 40 minutes a day. cbella has the right idea. An aerobic step is a great way to get your heart rate up. It doesn't matter if it's raining or day or night and you can do it in a very small space. You can also jump rope. Go to any boxing gym..the athletes are all skipping rope for cardio.

If its 20 min away you could do that occasionally but that isn't convenient so you need to come up with something at home. Do you have stairs in your house? walking up and down stairs burns lots of calories or get a jump rope and do that for 30 min in your bedroom or living room. your done in 30 min verses driving 20 min- jogging 30 min - then driving 20 more min. You have just waisted 40 min in driving.

I would first consider using a treadmill at home. If not, you have to decide whether or not you can afford to spend the gas money on going jogging every week. If you are cool with that, I say go for it! It's worth it for your health.

It's entirely up to you as to whether or not you think it's too far. Many people drive to gyms every day to workout, so if you are williing to drive there, and walk a circuit loop, then go for it.
