my niece has DF. I was told that we are not allowed to visit her. WHY???

No, You will not get dengue fever by just visiting a person or physical contact. It is transmitted through mosquitos carrying the DHF virus.
The hospital is probably limiting the number of visitors in your niece's room to protect her from further infections because her body's immune system is weak or shall I say in non-medical terms busy dealing with the DHF virus.

Why you cannot visit you niece, I could not say. Perhaps she feels too ill to have visitors.

DF cannot be transmitted form person to person contact
- you can get infected from the bite of an infected mosquito which could flying around your niece

You could not personally get DH from the person suffering from it, what you dont want to happen is it is very probable that there are dengue mosquitoes where she lives or if a mosquito bit her and then it will bit you also.
