yes,you can travel to japan with a criminal record, just make sure you don't brake any laws while you are there.you might get deported.

Anyone can go to japan if has no record of misdemeanor done or not blacklisted in that country. Criminal record is not an hindrance in traveling, unless there's pending case in court in the country of origin. If a case is pending and you were able to leave the country without clearance, see if there's an Extradition Treaty between your country and japan. If so, there's a chance you will be send back if your country learns you're already in japan. Interpol then will enter the scene

no you have to change passport's and it depends on your criminal record if the will let you go.
