I do believe there are many children out there that truly need medication to help them cope or focus. I also believe that over half of the children receiving medication for this, do not truly need them. We have allowed teachers, principals and doctors to tell us what is best for our child, like they even know our child. It is easier to m edicate and teach a zombie than to have to actually WORK and teach these children. There are so many things you can do, modify diet, activities, friends, spend more one on one time, limit television and video games, but it is easier to just pop a pill in their mouth and send them off for someone else to deal with them and educate them. Sad, sad, sad how our country views children with issues. As if we all do not have some sort of issues, why don't they just medicate the whole population, it is getting pretty close to that already.

Don't recognize, but. The healing he was once on wasn't doing some thing however make him sleepy. In any case, he is not totally unmanageable besides. He simply will get pissed off plenty and cannot pay attention or take a seat down. He's fourteen and was once identified approximately a month in the past. There's a change among ADHD and totally unmanageable youngsters. There could also be a few correlation however even the ones children with ADHD will also be conceivable with the proper field.

I too wonder the same thing. There is no question that some kids do have some serious problems and need medical intervention. I look at my husband, who's 52 and an extremely active man and hear all of the stories of him when he was a kid and I am sure that he would have been medicated or at least the doctors would have tried to talk his mom and dad into medicating him. In my opinion, he was just a normal, active person and doping him up would have just squashed his creativity and changed his personality. If parents can manage it, they should try alternative measures for treating their kids, like through diet and exercise.

I really dont know. And I just read the Scientifc American special issue on child development that talked about this, and even brain training activities for kids with ADHD, ADD,
But you also have to consider that just as there are "bad" parents out there, there are also parents trusting "bad" doctors, counselors, and teachers recommending the pills. Any profession, role, has its good and bad, butl who might be doing the best they can (or slacking off), and treatments like I talked about above, may be far more cost or time inhibitive than whats available.

Plus, we have doctors who just write prescriptions for everything/everybody. Then, a big gripe of mine is when they put a child on a medication, he's on it forever. I believe in the natural approach to a lot of those problems, and I am appalled at how many parents refuse to make life adjustments that can really impact their children. I mean those like, don't let a kid drink soda all day, restrict sugar, restrict preservatives (like in bologna), stuff like that. Parents just find it easier for them to pop a pill.
Hopefully, our society will become enlightened. You think?

I don't think parents want their children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Parents are going by a diagnosis of a medical professional. We should be asking what's causing it along with other diseases like autism. I've only known a handful of kids that were actually medicated.

Yea I agree and I think it makes the doctor harder to prescribe pills to kids who actually have add and adhd. My friends brother suffered for years with tourettes *sp?* , adhd, and add. The doctor could never get his pills right. He would either go straight to sleep or it would have no effect on him. I think parents need to step up and start disciplining their children.

There are way to many parents and teachers just looking to make children quiet so they drug them. It is horrible but it just keeps getting worse. More and more people looking for an easy solution to their problems.

def!!! Living the epidemic my son is WILD but all he needs is me to give him more guidelines. Its kinda like the dog whisperer. We need a parent whisperer so that parents can learn how to "handle" their kids so they don't have to go to meds if it ins't a last resort.
