Before I answer your question, I would like to ask you something: Why are you expecting something before helping other people??
The Bible speaks that if we will live after the Lord Jesus Christ, we will have eternal life...But helping others before yourself is not actually an assurance of the Lord's promise...It is all dependent on your intention...
Even if you have a good intention but you fulfilled your goal in an evil way, it is still a sin...Take Robin Hood for an example...He robs the rich and gives the money to the poor...Many people think that this deed is good because he is helping the poor...But the Bible speaks that it is wrong since he helped others in a wrong way...So with your question...You did not mention how you would help others before yourself...But if you would do it and continue to do good to others, you will definitely have eternal life as what the Bible promises to us...God Bless..

Please clarify what you mean by "if" you stay on Earth. Please add a comment to assure answers that you are not suicidal or anything like that.

The answer to your question, if you are not suicidal, lies in the values and the religious beliefs of the individual person. I will not cloud your question with my perspective, because I am a Christian and my orientation may be different from yours. You did not ask your question to get a sermon about good works being pleasing to the Lord but insufficient in and of themselves for Salvation, or anything like that.

I live in Taiwan, and I have been influenced by some Buddhist concepts about good works as well. My karma needs all the help it can get, but that is my stuff.

In other words, I think if you look into your heart you will be able to answer your own question.

Nothing.

The Ego has told you that you are WORTHLESS, and if you continue to think you are, you will be. Fulfilling your desires is the only way to defeat the constant demoralizing power of the Ego.

Pfft, and what is this comment about staying on earth? You planning to kill yourself? Little good that will do. Failure to learn the lessons of true forgiveness and freedom from the Ego will only result in you having to live through all of this again.

Are you an alien? Why would you leave Earth?

Seriously, you won't gain anything by helping others. If you truly love the people around you or the community you live in, help because you want to, not because you may get something in return.

How are you going to do selfless acts for selfish reasons? If you're gonna stay on the Earth to help others before yourself, then that's what you should do. If you're looking for rewards and things to gain, you're better off screwing people over.

Okay, where would go besides Earth, Jupiter? Besides people who help others dont do it for personal gain, they do it because they genuinely care about the community they live in.

the statisfaction that you are not a jerk and you made someones day much better. You may need someone's help one day and they may help you if everyone was like that wanting gain for something they did the earth would be more of a hellish place then it is already.

the sense of a job well done. wondering what you will gain by helping others is pointless, and an oxymoron. you shouldn't give kindness for something in return, because then it isn't kindness.
