I dont have children old enough but have done some research on it as I work in IT. Two scenarios would be if you know who the bullies are and if you dont. If you dont, theres nothing stopping you from flagging them to the site provider. Turn on setting to record chats, even grab screen shots, and send them in.
If you think they might be classmates, thats ones tougher, as there could be a fear of escalation. The simplest thing of course is to turn the computer off. Which of course is harder than it sounds. Other options would be to change userids, check your school's policy, block users, etc.
Lastly bullies often have harder time bullying a group. Get some allies, even yourself to log on at the same time as who's being bullied. And stand up to them in multiples.
If they're the bully, take away the computer, but find out why. Maybe they're being bullied in the real world, and using the internet as an outlet to do some bullying themselves.

well block the person or change you're email user-name etc. also you may want to not use the site they are being bullied bye. If you're child si being the bully and is bullying for no reason then I would take away the computer for maybe a day and if they keep doing it i would keep adding time days possibly weeks and maybe even take the computer away all together.

Actually as a fifteen year old I was the victim.. My sister took care of it both times it happened.. The first time I was in third grade and it was some kid who thought he was cool and everyone hated.. I didn't care because I had friends and what he was saying was totally false.. The second time it involved my sister too.. It was really bad this just happened a few months ago.. It ended in me transfering, a trip to the Dean of Disipline, AND me and my best friend braking up because she started it.
Best thing to do: anonomously go to the principal and show them what has been happening and that kid will get in MAJOR trouble.

my brother had a huge problem with it he used to refuse to go online or let anyone go on because they had gotten ahold of the whole families email addresses. i being a big sister dealt with it as a big sister does. this was a kid that went to his school and terrorized him at school as well. so i went through a few networks of police i knew as well as friends with younger siblings that went to school with him and flexed my figurative big sister muscles and it stopped.
now i also dealt with a stalker who littterally threatened to rape kill and threatened my family the whole nine yards that we got the police involved in we printed every conversation and saved them. they stopped really fast they continued to harrass my BF and threatened to do all those things to me and then make me watch them gut my boyfriend. so those went to the police as well. so i guess what im saying is if you dont have access to a physical factor to scare the nonsense out of the child then bring in the police especially on aol they can track it to the house of origin.
