I am 21. I believe my speech is impaired but maybe this has something to do with a reading problem or dyslexia?? I have already met with a speech therapist . I am no longer going , she believes I improved enough. I am still not satisfied and believe my speech and maybe communication needs improvement. Job interviews are horrible and at times mutual relations have been affected. It is clear I have a slight monotone ... Please, what can i do? This will really hurt me in the future !

I would have a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment done by a neuropsychologist.. Check with your a major research univesrity near you or go to http://abpn.net/memberDirectory.aspx, http://www.theaacn.org/diplomates/database/view.php
They are highly trained in diagnosing LD's and dyslexia. They may have a SLP perform an assessment on you as well. Warning, comprehensive assessments can be costly, as much as up to 5,000. But they are worth it.

You could try another speech therapist. There are also tests to determine if you have a reading problem or dyslexia. Also, you could have someone "coach" you to work on how you talk, role playing interivew situations, or other difficult situations that you feel uncomfortable with. You could improve the sound of your talk. This is all workable. Don't give up. It is a legitimate concern. I think you will do well since you see you need some help.

First of all, You should not stop seeing a speech therapist if you feel you are not satisfied with your level of progress. I suggest you find a new therapist. Also, you would benefit from getting a thorough evaluation by a psychologist who specializes in learning differences. You will find out exactly what the issue is and it will be a relief to know, trust me on that. This person will then be able to point you in the proper direction in terms of extra help to overcome your difficulties.
I did a little bit of research on speech impairment. Please read;

maybe you need more confidence- since you were recieving help and she said you are improved enough. Being that you are out of school- I dont know who you'd get help from. As your doctor for a referral- or take a college class that builds speech- or a local workforce development through social services. good luck.
