if he claims them as his dependents then yes they too will get id cards and medical care...if he does not claim them and enroll them in deers...then no they will not..this does not mean he needs to adopt them or they take his last name..its all in some paperwork...they usually are 10 years old before they get id cards unless the parents divorce

edit: the person who posted below me that says he gets more of a meal allowance doesnt know what they are talking about..i am married to an airforce senior master sergeant and regardless of whether we are married or not his meal pay stays the same..his basic pay also stays the same..the only thing that is different is the housing allowance...but actually its not that big of a difference anymore....the kids if they are under the age of ten..can do all the things on base anyone else can the only thing is you have to normally be there for them to get in..after ten they do get an id card...but the most important thing is he has to enroll them in deers for them to get any medical care thru tricare..the dental is paid for out of his pocket thru united concordia..its ok it cost about 20 bucks a month regardless of the number of dependents and unless you live overseas you make those appointments off base...eye exams too are covered once a year off base..you buy the glasses if you need them..the other really great thing about the medical care is if its not available onbase..they send you downtown and pay all of it...

Yes. Stepchildren that live with the military member can get benefits. My son was able to be enrolled from day one and it was never a problem. They did ask my husband if he was assuming all financial responsibility for him though. Now the life insurance, social security benefits, etc are different and only include children that are legally the service members...either through biology or adoption. But health insurance, access to the stuff on base etc are available to stepkids.

Once she is married to him her children (those that are not his) will be able to receive benifits under him. Such as medical, dental and life insurance. They will be able to be seen onpost just like his children and the one they are expecting.

He will have to fill out some paperwork, but it is not that hard and get them enrolled on his DEERS. They will be good to go. There are many stepchildren in the military and that is one good thing about the military is that they do take care of them.

And once any one of them turns 10 years old, they will be able to get an ID card so that they can do more things on post.

But if something were to happen to them, divorce, her children not his would lose all benifits as would she.

Tell her good luck from me.

as long as she has primary custody, the step children will be entitled to all the same benefits as the biological kids.

However, if the custody agreement with the children's father stipulates that he provides medical insurance, TRICARE will be SECONDARY.

BTW, since he ALREADY has children, he is ALREADY getting BAH at the with dependent rate, which is the only increase he would be entitled to. His take home pay will NOT be going up at all.

They will get benefits as long as he claims them as depentants with the military and then he has to go to the DEERS office and then the Tricare office on base and sign them up.

Yes, all dependents will get the benefits. The big one is TriCare, which is the military health insurance which covers Almost EVERYTHING. In fact, I have never ran into a case where Tricare did not cover something...and make it free.

I had a horrible case of Strep Throat a couple weeks ago, and the doctor visit, antobiotic shot, antobiotic pills, steroid pills were ALL FREE thanks to Tricare.

Another plus is that his salary will increase. Which means he will get more MEAL allowance, more BAH or HOUSING allowance, and more of a pay.

all in all, the military takes care of its people. And when someone marries into the military, they become apart of the military family....and can put their hands into Uncle Sam's wallet. And the Uncle is a very nice man.

As long as they are living under his roof, and he has guardianship of them...they will be covered under DEERS aka Tricare
