Maybe they are trying to answer the question as fully as possible.
If someone asked me what I believed about God I could truthfully say that I was:
+ A Theist
+ A Monotheist
+ A worshiper of the God of Abraham
+ A worshiper of the God of Moses
+ A worshiper of the God of Israel
+ A Christian
+ A Trinitarian
But telling someone that I am a Catholic says all of the above and more.
With love in Christ.

How ironic isn't it? Christians are people who have faith in Jesus Christ. The Catholics say that as if they were not Christians while their church is much older than the Protestants'. I don't know how and when did this mistake begin. To make things worse, even a local Catholic parish in my neighborhood follows this in their census documents. In that census document, it is clearly stated that a marriage is counted as a mixed marriage if your spouse is not Catholic i.e. Muslims, Christians (?!?!), Hindus, Buddhists, etc. I cannot believe this, even a parish buys this mistake. I wonder how many parishes follow this mistake, something that might go unnoticed for many years by the Vatican.
p.s. : I have heard the replies to your question more than I can remember, but I never expect to even hear such thing from a Lutheran like posted by pastorart1974 here.

Sounds like some of the Catholics are starting to buy into the prejudiced ignorance of the fundamentalist Protestants who have started the slander in the past few years that Catholics aren't Christians.
The Catholic Church is the founding church of Christianity. Therefore it IS the very definition of Christianity.
What comes AFTER that is something different. A variation of the original, true Christianity. But not THE true Christianity, just a version of it. That is what Protestantism is.
It's typical replacement theology. The Catholic Church did it to us, so does the Protestant church. Guess what comes around, goes around.

I've seen several questions like this now, but have never heard of it outside of this site. I'm a lifelong Catholic. If somebody asks me if I'm a Christian, I say that I am. If they want to know which denomination, then I explain that I'm a Roman Catholic. Sometimes, if it's a hurried conversation and somebody asks my religion, I'll just say "Catholic" with the knowledge that the "Christian" part is logically implied, since Catholicism is a denomination within Christianity.

Because the Catholic church was the of the apostles. The original Catholic church and was then divided Roman Catholic and Orthodox Catholic.
The beginning Protestant churches broke away from the catholic church so they can make their own rules foe example divorce.

The Old Testament Fundamentalists have taken over the word "Christian". No-one wants to be considered to be a right-wing religious fundie so they say they are not. Catholics are Christians, it is the OTFs who are not but they say they are so loudly and so often that people associate "Christian" with them and refuse to have anything to do with it.

no,but the catolics i've dealt w/have told me that they do not worship mary, they worship & pointed to the picture of Christ in the room & said Him. This one was my dr. & the other one was a lady who helped me w/my car when it went dead.
my dr. said he was not like other catholics. my brother in law, now gone on to be w/the Lord, was a Catholic, yet he supported me in my need to get counseling through a baptist ministery when i was young.
There is a difference , i think like mel gibson, how he looked at Dianne sawyer, when she asked him about the difference between his catholic belief & his fathers being not the same..he gave her a look that if looks could kill, she'd be a goner.

Throughout the centuries, Protestants are the ones who have been generally termed as Christians. Catholics, on the other hand, are -- Catholics! They are not to be confused with the myriads and myriads of manmade religious expressions of faith that has been invented since Martin Luther sought to do his own thing in 1517. By stating that we are Catholics, we are actually saying that we are the original Church -- the True Church of Jesus Christ.

I know some very devout Catholics and they would answer your question the same way...
I do know that they are very strict in their ways and their rituals, etc..and have a very different set of values then the everyday evangelist.
Everything is not strictly heaven or hell to them....
I hope you find what it is you seek...
