No I do not believe in out of body experiences or the near death experiences. Both are merely the workings of the subconscious mind. Neither has any basis in provable fact or scientific study.

It may be hard to believe when you hear it from someone, but I've had over 1000 OBE's. So when it comes to their validity and essence of experience, I might be able to answer. I first discovered how to induce them using the attention of the mind when I was about 20 years old. Even though they had happened infrequently to me without the use of drugs I didn't really become aware of them until I began using a yoga practice known as yoga nidra. Yogis believe that since the ultimate goal of Self-realization (aka knowing God) Simple astral experiences (like flying and seeing your body) are but a distraction of the mind. They also say however that they are a natural by product of meditation. What I personally discovered is that there are many different types of Out-of-body experiences. One might call them different degrees of recognizing one's connection with all of life.
Even in the astral body (ghost body), there is a deeper connection to the source of creation, and with that connection comes a deeper feeling, a deeper wisdom and sense of knowing connection (undividedness) itself. So it is more than just a simple trick with goggles. For those who want to do real research I recommend sincerely doing a meditation practice of yoga or buddhism. You see, the yogis were great scientists, not in the realm of the intellect but rather in the experience of the whole being. So go, try, practice and discover what is real and what is unreal. If you don't practice, you will never really know and it will only have its reality as a speculation of your intellect.

What about the people who saw and heard things while outside the body that was miles and miles away from where their bodies were. People have been on rooftops and have seen and heard things they couldn't have possibly seen unless they were outside the body. These things have been verified over and over again. These experiences probably can be triggered by things other than death but nobody can convince people otherwise about the things they experienced.
There is a real spirit realm that we can't see or detect at all. You may as well learn about it now because that's where we will all end up when we die.

yes,
Matthew 12:43 “When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through parched places in search of a resting-place, and finds none. 44 Then it says, ‘I will go back to my house out of which I moved’; and on arriving it finds it unoccupied but swept clean and adorned. 45 Then it goes its way and takes along with it seven different spirits more wicked than itself, and, after getting inside, they dwell there; and the final circumstances of that man become worse than the first. That is how it will be also with this wicked generation.”
Compare to 'astral projection'.
