you are not allowed to send anything except letters, greeting cards, phone cards, stamps and a very few pictures. be aware that he has no privacy, and that anything he receives can be gone through, so don't send any pictures which could be embarrassing.
anything else will cause him to be punished, and lose privileges, such as phone time. he won't have access to a computer, at all, so don't bother with email, and he won't have a cellphone, so, he has to use a calling card, with a payphone, when he has a pass and/or permission from his sergeant. save the care packages for after ait (advanced training) and for deployments. he'll love them, then, and appreciate them more than he'll ever be able to tell you.
you can send lots of letters, start writing now, so when you get his address, you'll have a few ready to go out, right away. they look forward to those letters. you might not get any back, they don't have time to write. still, he'll cherish your letters.
all the best

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT SEND ANY PACKAGES!!!
I swear, if you do that, he might kill you. I am in the Coast Guard, and I got out of basic 2 months ago. Let me tell you a "care package" story:
One of my fellow recruits, lets call him Seamn Recruit Doe, had a girlfriend. And his girlfriend's mom decided one day to send him a care package with 3 packs of Oreos and a Hawaain Lay (flower necklace) since he got Honolulu, HW on his billit. So the company commander made him eat ALL the oreos in less than 1 hour....made him wear the Lay all day around base (got picked on by every other company commnader), and it was all aruond hell. THEN, the mother sent a package with gummy bears the next week...and he had to eat them all there too..and the story continues until finally he had to break up with his girlfriend in a letter to get the mom to stop.
So let this be a lesson to you.
Now what you CAN send would be a letter, a picture that is not nude, and phone cards if he ever gets a chance to call on the pay phones. These are the best things you can send, and there really is NOTHING else you can send. No newspaper clippings, or magazine articles, JUST LETTERS asking how he is doing...yada yada. One thing I wished was that my girlfriend sent me a letter at least every 3 days. So I recommend you NOT do like mine and send one every week. Because the days are long, and the best thing in the world is to open up a letter from your girl every couple of days...it lets him know you care. And if you have a perfume, do like mine did, and spray it on the letter. If he knows that is your scent, he might do like me and go gaga

I'll give you the absolute best answer possible. I went to Boot Camp last year. We sent a letter with a list of what could/could not be sent to us. It is very detailed, and does include what other answers indicate.
About the food though, one mother sent some beef jerkey. Our sr. drill sgt (DIDN'T - wink) let us all have some. There was some candy there too, but we didn't get that.
There were rumors that "Care Packages" were sent by a private organization, but they never got to us.
Be strong and supportive. Towards the last few weeks, he will need some encouragement.

you prbably can send him a "care package" but dont he realy dont have a place for "things". he'll be fine and home on leave in no time... letters are nice to get and you should send 1-2 a week even though it will make him home sick.. he's fine , he'll be fine , and its best he keeps his mind on what he's doing.. 2-3 letters a week from friends and family are fun to get though.. when i was in basic[ a long time ago] i would write friends and family 2-3 a day.. 'still got some of the letters, and all of the pictures i saent home..

The only items you can send him are letters, pictures, calling cards and that's about it really. It may be hard at times but he will be able to keep in touch by writing as well. Good luck! :)

No food. Absolutely no food. My husband went through last summer, and if anyone got food, they turned it into a PUNISHMENT. (made them eat it, then worked them till they threw up) Letters only. Greeting cards are pushing it. No trinkets, no gifts, nothing. I sent a small glass star to my husband and they took it away, never gave it back. No books. Pictures are OK, though, as long as it's no where near porn-like.

no care packages just letters and absolutely no naked pics unless you want everyone to see you cuz they will check. send letters everyday, even though he may not get to read them just the piece of mind that he got mail everyday makes it worth it. small pic would be ok nothing big or fancy. i just made the letters cute and funny. never anything sad or upsetting. lots of i'm proud of you and i love you and see you soon...should do the trick. worked for me!!

CARDS AND LETTERS ONLY.
and don't put anything on the envelopes, no lipstick kisses, no perfume, no smiley faces. he will be singled out for more pushups to 'earn' his letters.
Care packages are forbidden, they cannot have anything, especially food sent to them. it will be confiscated.
any pictures you send better be something you would give your great Grandmother Sadie to put on her mantle.

Letters and pictures are great. Packages and foodstuffs, not so good.
Stick with the letters, they will really perk him up. And always include lots of pictures.
