I bought a Black & Decker Rice Cooker Plus at a garage sale but the box didn't have the instructions. I'm trying to cook brown rice but don't understand the markings on the side...
Please help if you have any rice cooker experience.

The website has a picture of the manual that is too small to read with the naked eye.

Thanks for all the information, folks. Brown rice does take a lot longer so that's good to know. You have all been helpful so thanks.

I use a rice steamer almost every day. My rice steamer came with a plastic cup about the size of 3/4 cup. If I put one plastic cup (3/4 cup) of rice in the pot, then I fill it with water to the 1 mark. If I put in 2 cups of rice, then I fill it with water to the 2 mark. I always add lots of curry, garlic powder, pepper, Italian seasoning, and whatever to my rice. The rice tastes so much better than just plain white rice. I put a chicken thigh in the steamer basket with some frozen green beans for a low fat meal. I also spice up my chicken with curry, etc... I also use Mrs Dash on the chicken and green beans. It usually takes about 25 minutes for it to cook. It really gets to boiling so you have to let it sit for about 7-10 minutes before serving. Mine used to shut off automatically after about 25 minutes, but then the thermostat started messing up; and it was shutting off after about 20 minutes. My chicken was never done so after a few times of that I disabled the thermostat and used my kitchen timer and cut it off myself after about 25 minutes.
That's what the 1, 2, and 3 mean on the side of my rice steamer. It says one cup, but it refers to the plastic cup that came with my rice steamer. The other markings I have never used. I think you can just forget about them. They might be showing liters in decimels.
I'm almost sure that if you add one part rice and one part water, it will work out well. You might want to add a little less water. Like one part rice and 7/8 part water. (It depends on your taste and the rice.) That's for white rice. I don't cook brown rice very often. Try the spicy (curry) white rice.
I go to the Asian market every couple of months and buy a 25 pound bag of rice for about $17 -- Kokuho Rose rice.

Im asian so we cook rice very well. Just wash the rice before cooking, measure the rice you want to cook and add the same number of water just add a little more water. Example if you cook 3 cups of rice, put 3 1/4 cups of water. Be sure to turn on your rice cooker and see if the light is in cooking not just keep warm or anything else. then you just have to wait, if the light sign says keep warm already, its probably cooked already.

Brown rice is not advisable to be cooked in a rice cooker. It takes twice as long to cook as white rice. It will be undercooked when the rice cooker thinks its gone. Follow the info on the package for the cooking info.

This is the link for the manual; if it doesn't open try just http://www.useandcaremanuals.com and scroll down to the bottom to see the product types under cooking.
Click on the product number on the right. If the link does not open, go up to your Toolbar and click on "temporarily allow pop-ups". Then go back to the link, click on it. When it opens if the text is too small, go up to the tools window on the .pdf (not your browser) and click on the drop down menu where it shows the percentage, then choose 100%. The text will enlarge so that you can read it.
