can i just use regular store bought in a box cake mix, or does the cake have to be denser??

Very pretty cake =)

That is made with fondant on the outside.. The cake itself is regular cake.

Here is a link that will explain how to buy and use fondant, as well as recipes for cakes like the one you linked =)

Edit: Yes you can use cake mix for it,just make sure the cake is cold before you start icing it.

You need a sturdy cake base, preferably made on a fruit cake recipe. And use plastic icing for the icing.

its pretty hard. i've been baking practically my whole life and i still think its hard to make fondant which is what that cake is covered in. and i would not advise you to use a boxed cake mix.

WOW!! thats pretty....but its hard to make...you have to make the cake then get fondant and roll it out right..if you dont then it'll come out wring...then you can make gum paste flowers and decorations...
