Hey, if you are a scientist in this field, or you are a global warming activist, the shut up and listen to me for a second:

I have been a huge skeptic for a long time now. But finally after all this time, I have been able to sort through most of the lies (from both sides), misinformation, propaganda, and worst of all, the FEAR MONGERING to start to understand that global warming may actually be MAN MADE!

That being said - I am absolutely enfuriated by this. If you are right about global warming being man-made, then why talk for 20 minutes about the horrors of life in New Orleans after Katrina? Why tell us that the sea will rise 20 or more feet and that Manhattan will be under water? Why tell us that most of Florida will be gone?

Please, for the love of humanity tell us exactly in scientific terms, using UNEDITED data and graphs, HOW this is happening so that other skeptic can get on board. Please show us REAL and ACCURATE data on solar activity for the past 70+ years.

I mean, where were you guys when the skeptics came out with their articles about other planets warming also?

I just think that the proponents, Al Gore being the worst, do a terrible job at convincing the intelligent skeptics that they are right. Instead they RUIN THEIR CREDIBILITY by focusing on the DUMB people by FEAR MONGERING.

Don't you realize that you are doing more harm than good if you are right?

Al Gore exaggerates (or more accurately, gives the worst possible scenario, though the scenarios he gives are possible). Scientists just tell it like it is. There's a difference, and it's not fair to group them all together.

Also, talking about the worst scenario is not the same thing as lying. Most of Gore's film was scientifically accurate, and the scenarios he provides entirely possible.

"I mean, where were you guys when the skeptics came out with their articles about other planets warming also?"

Right here correcting them:

Open your eyes and seem around at what's happening to this planet earlier it incredibly is merely too late for all individuals. what's incorrect with attempting to get human beings to end destroying this planet? Al Gore is doing the suited element, i'm no longer a Michael Moore fan in any respect, yet Al Gore is impressive!

I agree with you about Al Gore and his movie. It's absolutely not the way to convince skeptics about global warming. But I do think it can wake some people up who never even thought about this problem before. His scenarios is unlikely but possible and the movie would be rather dull without these scary scenarios wouldn't it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that some of the reason for the high percentage of the American skepticism lies within this issue as movies like this is what people not involved in the issue is referred to. In Sweden we have national information campaigns focusing more about the plain facts and we have instances where citizens can ask experts in the field if they want to know more. And although climate change is supposed to lead to some advantages for Sweden in the short term, most people are concerned about the issue and want to do their part to help.

Also, thanks for starting to reconsider. I admire that!

CORRECTION to an answer:

CLIMATE CHANGE has been going on for centuries - the natural cooling and heating of the earth

What we are doing is increasing the rate at which this process - global warming - is occurring! Animals and plants can't evolve thisfast!

Sometimes i really worry about people who still believe that everything has nothing to do with 'man'. I mean, all the scientific evidence is there, and for those who are still skeptical, consider the scenarios:
i- we do something about it and scientists are wrong --> we look a little silly later on down the track

ii- we don't do anything and scientists are right --> we have no planet

i know which i'd prefer!

and for all those idiots who are worried about the economy:
THERE ARE NO JOBS ON A DEAD PLANET

there, i've said my piece

Only people just out of the funny farm believe in global warming. Take a look at the people who promote this nonsense. Studies show that a person without a high school education is 82% more likely to believe in global warming. The same type of person who brought you global freezing in the 1960's now brings you global warming. Also why not ask yourself what the economic conseqences will be if we waste trillions of dollars on a non existant problem or a problem whichwe cannot control. If the dth of 2,000 per day does not mean anything to you maybe it should!!. What if one of those is a close relative?
Global warming needs to be treated as a religion. Some people believe that if you do not believe in their god the world is doomed. The US gov't is not allowed due to the separation of state and church to start spending billions to force everyone to confirn to this teaching in order to save the world. even though if they happened to be right everyone not of this belief may be in grave danger. Well it seems this is what is happening with the global warming religion!! Their god is earth and if you do not do as their religion tells you we are all doomed. Only thing is the gov't seems to have forgotten about the separation of church and state and is forcing everyone to believe in the Church of Global Warming and spending billions of US taxpayers money to promote this new religion.

Then there is the brown haze over India and China. Seen by satellites. The cause of GW? Over a billion people in those 2 countries each are heating their houses and cooking their food with COW DUNG. It is throwing up a brown cloud that can be seen by satellites. This may have more effect on GW by far than that invisible CO2.

Data doesn't pull the heart strings like polar bears and devastated cities do. If you don't want the bleeding heart imagery, just steer clear of Gore and company and do your own research.

If you want to know why they focus on the "dumb" people, it's because those people comprise most of the population. Dumb people are why we have amendments against same-sex marriage and why we have people like Jim Inhofe holding public office, not to mention our president. Don't you love America?

Btw: The devastation from Katrina was largely due to the fact that big parts of the city were built on areas that used to be under water. The levees were to keep it dry but they failed. This is why I think it's a stupid idea to rebuild these areas of the city. Just another example of dumb people getting their way.

Wow, there's been a real upsurge in reasonable skepticism lately.

This will be mostly links, you should not trust anybody on Yahoo Answers, including me, of course.

Here's the clearest stuff I know, with references to the underlying scientific literature. You could search them out (online or at a college library) to get the purest stuff, but these qualify as "unedited".

Global temperatures are going up:

http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Instrumental_Temperature_Record_png

Purely natural explanations simply cannot match the data. But, throw in greenhouse gases, and you can match it rather well:

http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png

Here are three great discussions of solar activity with lots of data:

Gore was overdramatic. But he's trying to get people's attention. His projections are not outlandish, the technical term is "reasonable worst case".

But it's probably best for skeptics to ignore his stuff and focus on the core science. These 26 short articles are excellent:

Al Gore has made a career out of lying ("I invented the Internet"). Not sure about the "scientists."

Al Gore is just crazy. I'm convinced he truly believes what he's saying.

As for the Scientists.... They have to keep their jobs. If there's no bad news to report, they seem kind of useless don't they?
