This simply isn't true. While there are some SMALL similarities between Jesus and other religious figures that came before him, there is also a HUGE amount of differences between his story and the other ones.

Of course if you examine two different things you can see similarities. Just look at the assasinations of Lincoln and Kennedy. There were a bunch of similarities. Just google it.

That doesn't mean though that two thousand years from now we should automatically assume that Kennedy never existed.

The atheist logic is severly flawed. Agree?

There are a LOT of similarities and most Christian rituals contain a lot of Pagan ideas in them.In fact the whole account of Jesus's life is amazingly like that of the life of the Roman god Mithras who pre-dates Jesus.

Does that mean early Christians stole ideas from Pagans-yes.

Does it mean Jesus never existed-No not as such.

I am a Pagan and don't believe that Jesus was the son of the Abrahamic god or the saviour of the human race. However I do accept that a man called Jesus probably lived-and was executed-in what is now Israel just over 2000 years ago.

The Roman empire was horrible in many ways but they kept superb written records of all the races they ruled and records have been found to support the belief that Pontius Pilate had a Jewish man called Jesus executed around 2000 years ago.

What is your question:

Why do people say the story of Jesus was borrowed from pagan myths?

or

The atheist logic is severly flawed. Agree?

I think before you indulge youself in investigating the pagan origin of Christianity, you must decide first what question to ask. If you already have a pre-conditioned answer to your first question, why bother to ask?

Now the first question is really interesting if the questioner is really honest to find the answers. But if the question is really a ploy to insult non-believers. Well why will an atheist bother to answer this hog-wash?

Now are you really into throughful investigation or you just want to cuss people because of their disbelief? It's your call.

This is not just atheist logic.

I have pointed out the similarities between Jesus and Heracles in a previous question. The similarities between Mithras and Jesus are so strong that there is a theory that Constantine the Great was actually a follower of Mithras. And there is an essay that I can refer you to about the similarities between Dionysus and Jesus......

I would not say that these similarities are small, especially with the number of points of congruence between Jesus and Dionysus......

They're not necessarily pagan to begin with, but when you look at them you can see similarities.

The greatest one would be Apollonius of Tyana which a lot of historians believe to be the actual source of the myth of Jesus. He did all the things that Jesus supposedly did including dying and being raised from the dead.

The only real difference is Jesus got a lot more press after his death than Apollonius did.

No, you buffoon. Comparing Kennedy to Christ is quite a leap, for one major reason: There is proof that JFK actually existed. The only proof you will throw out is the Bible, which is a big, fat book of fairytales. And Christianity has stolen many things from the pagan beliefs.

I think people are referring Horus the son of Isis in Ancient Egypt. Many people believe that story of the virgin birth came from the Egyptian story. Perhaps the Egyptians received the story directly from God. The Ancient Egyptian Priests were very spiritual people. The Ancient Egyptians also have a sacred document called the 42 Negative Confessions, which predates the 10 Commandments by thousands of years. If you were to examine the 42 Negative Confessions, you will find it very close to the 10 Commandments, which tells me that the Ancient Egyptians had a prior relationship with God. The Bible does not give us a complete history of mankind.

If you asked the question only so that you could bash atheists, you won't be interested in visiting the links below. However, if you actually want to know the truth about christian mythology, and how Jesus really is just a rehash of earlier god-men, you might get something out of reading what they link to.

jesus was a fabrication of jewish rebels who wanted to capitalize on the roman population's hunger for new religions. their aim was to discredit the emporer's claim of divinity by creating a religion in which there could be only one god and only one means of salvation. little did they know that almost 400 years later, their enemy would use their invention to prolong the life of the roman empire.

yes, they gave their lives for a lie. it's a story that has been repeated thru-out history: they were rebels with a diabolical plan for glory and martyrdom. and they gave a repressive regime the tool it needed to subjugate western civilization these last 1600 years.

nope, sorry.

do some research - its highly based on the stories surrounding Mithras, which were in huge circulation in the mediterranean at that time.

I know its hard to accept that your sacred truths are a bunch of made up lies, but thats the way it is.
