I think that you screwed the pooch on this one. Regardless of your excuse or explanation, I don't think that you have a chance for this job. It demonstrates that you are unreliable.

If you called ahead and said that you were going to be a half hour late, while it isn't the best thing, you probably could have gotten away with it, depending upon the level of job you were interviewing.

You need to let this one go and try for another.

Hope that the interview went really really well. By showing up half an hour late to the interview, it shows the interviewer that you are not reliable and that you will constantly show up late. Even if being late was just a one time thing, he will still think that you will show up late if hired.

Was there a legitimate reason why you were late for 30 mins? If you are running late to an appointment especially an interview, always call ahead and tell them you are running behind.

If you just show up 30 mins late, it is probably not a good thing unless the interviewer didn't notice. (not likely) You probably have 2 or 3 strikes before you open your mouth.

So , Not Good .
Hope they are desperate for a person with your qualifications .
Since the interview is now over , what can you do ?
You should have called to let them know you were running late then apologized , indicating you were delayed by personal business .

well you can't do anything now that the interviewer knows that you are the likely kind who arrives late and is not reliable. Only hope is that a miracle happens

Write a follow-up letter re-enforcing why you are the best person for the job. You may also want to briefly explain the situation as to why you were late, if you haven't, and apologize again. Encourage them to call your former employers unless they'll mention tardiness as well & your references.

A very, very, very good follow up letter to show your professionalism can save you especially if you have the skills.

Don't give up yet.
