Today a horrible thing happened.. I was picking my daughter up from school & as I was walking back to my car... which was quite aways from the school I noticed movement in the car next to mine.. this angered me because I quickly noted all the windows were shut tight except one which was cracked about 1/4 way.. I thought what monster leaves a poor animal in a car on a 100+ day with the windows up & the car was OFF & the keys gone. I walked over & to my horror there wasn't an animal inside... insted I found 2 CHILDREN!! One was a 3 year old little boy & a 3-4 month old baby girl.. There were no parents in site.. I quickly scanned the area looking for the parents.. everyone seemed to be about their business but none came near the car.. I hollared to another mom that someone had locked their kids in the car with the car off & the windows up.. she ran over & screamed Oh MY GOD.. I stayed by the car & tried to get the door open & she ran to the office to get help.. I guess the mom of the kids.. who meanwhile was sitting in air conditioning.. finding directions to the cafeteria so she could sit in there & wait on her son which could take the better part of 15-20 mins.. had heard it go over the loud speakers of an emergency with kids in vechicle.. & she ran outside.. & I confronted her... she said.. but I'm from a small town & I just moved here & we do this there all the time... I looked at her dumbfounded.. it was if she was defending the fact that her kids could have been kidnapped.. WHICH WAS ALSO A POSSIBLITY... but not at the moment.. it didn't seem to CLICK to her that children could die within 10 minutes in a car the temo raises to over 120-130 degrees.. the brain literally fries.. How can their be parents like this.. it's horrible enough to make an accident & leave them.. we all know how that turns out.. but TO DO IT ON PURPOSE.. & she didn't appear to be under the influence or anything.. so what could have made her make such a HORRIBLE choice.. to leave her own kids in car with the windows UP just to avoid the inconvience to carrying them across campus to get her other child.. I'm sorry I jut had to vent.. & I can't help but think of what would have happened had I or someone else not found them in a just a few more minutes they would have been dead.. She left before the police were called.. & I was wondering if those children should have gotten medical attention for being in the car as long as they were.. they were panting & looked SOOO red.. & sweaty of course.. Sorry I'm rambling but I just feel so horrible that if she doesn't even get what was so bad about what she done.. who's to say she won't do it again.. & no one will find the children in time.. God help those babies that's all I can say...

The police should have been called and she could have been fined, but they probably wouldn't take the kids from her. I NEVER leave my son in the car, even if it ISN'T hot out. All it takes is a couple of seconds for someone to break a window and snatch those kids. Some people are just ignorant. I would still have the school report her to the police so they can talk to her about the dangers.

Some people aren't all there upstairs... Being from a small town, I can vouch that people do these sorts of things all the time! It's not a big deal when you live in a safe bubble world where every Tom, Dick and Harry walks by and waves at your kids because everyone knows everyone. However, if she's in a new area she needs to realize that the environment is not as safe or friendly. Maybe instead of making her nervous you should've explained the local area and how unsafe it is so she doesn't do this again... Apart from that, I don't know WHY she'd leave the kids in the car when it's so hot. Perhaps she left the windows up so no one could get in the car and take her children... Either way that was stupid on her part. Does the woman deserve to have her children taken away? That's situational. Perhaps she'd not had the education or someone come beside her to teach her right from wrong... Reflect: did your parents leave you in the car back in the day? Probably. I know mine did and I grew up safely and happily in a home with exceptional parenting.

My guess is the police will do a follow up and run the plates. But if she just moved here she might be hard to find. Lets hope they have found her and talked to her about the dangers of leaving children in the car. ANd just keep your eye out for her when your at school again. Maybe you can catch her again. Lets hope shes learned her lesson. Some parents can be so dumb! Well a high five to you for taking time to do sometime instead of turing your nose in another direction!

Not so sure about the police being called maybe a social worker to give her some parenting advice!!! I personally would never leave any of my children in the car (sorry i did i was about 25 seconds to get a parking ticket) if i need to go pick the kids up from school i get the little ones in a pushchair simple to me this makes common sense. But i also understand her she thinks if she locks her car the kids would be safe from kidnappers, but she forgets about the heat why not turn down all the car windows a little!! It is easy done its not right but who are we to judge!!!!

It takes a long time to deal with it but you never get over it. My dad died at 47 of major heart attack also & I was 20. The way I coped with it was I remembered all the great times we shared & had together. That was 36 yrs ago & i still miss him. My oldest son was 11 months old when he died. He would never meet my other 8 kids or 14 grand kids. Just love & hold on to the remaining family members you have. Family is everything. Stay close to them they're probably hurting as much as you. Good luck & God Bless

I hate people who do this. I know it is hard to do things with children trust me I have 3 and one on the way. I struggle very hard with mine. The cops should have been called, but I hope she got a good scare and learned her lesson. Having children is one of the hardest things a women can go through. I know getting in and out of the car with children especially if there are still in their car seats is a hassle but if she can't handle that part of mother hood she should not have children? You did right. For some odd reason you were there at the right place and time. I think there are people here on earth for many reasons. You are one of them.

You did the right thing, I can't fathom a mother doing that, I wont even take my dogs in the car if its too hot.
And all four kids go in everytime if I go in, Or the hubby stays in the van with them with the air on the whole time and a dvd playing. He doesnt care if he runs a half a tank of gas out, kids are first.

Shes just stone stupid. Some people are. You can't do too much about it, but I can tell you that if she did it in NY state, she would be in jail. We would have called the cops before looking for a parent. You are right, time was of the essence and a few minutes could have led to tragedy, this thoughtless woman can't tell me that being from a small town makes you stupid, I live in a small town too.

I've seen this happen before and I flipped out. I called the police... this was an infant in a car seat. I understand how upset it made you. By the way, you did the right thing... props to you!

I would have called the police. Maybe they would be able to get it through her head that this is a serious issue. My thoughts and prayers are with those kids, and any other kids who are forced to deal with their parents stupid decisions. I don't care how small the town she came from was...I'm sure they had weather.
