Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hello. Islam is the religion that was revealed to Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, in Arabia over 1400 years ago. The sect that is called the Nation of Islam was not and never has been something that is a part of Islam. Rather, their charismatic leader developed a cult of personality and used a mixture of science fiction, Islam, Christianity, and pure snake oil mixed with black nationalism to create this thing called NOI. Their founder was considered by them to be a prophet and it is a fundamental belief of Islam that Muhammad was the FINAL prophet, so anyone claiming to be a prophet after him is misguided.
My attitude towards the members of the NOI is the same as my attitude towards any non-Muslim. I pray for their guidance. May Allah guide them to Islam, Ameen.
Fi Aman Allah,
Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

Islam is a religion-- a way of life. As is seen in Christianity, there are many sects (that some people see as veering off the path). Nation of Islam, however, isn't a sect, since they believe that Elijah Muhammad was God, and that one of the top priests was Prophet. This is totally against Islamic beliefs. However, there has been a major shift of Nation people who are now reverting to the main Islamic religion.

Islam is a religion and the Nation of Islam is a black nationalist sect/organization. According to Islam, The Koran is the religious scripture of Muslims and Muhammed is the last prophet of God.

There are many Islamic sects. The nation of Islam uses the same Koran as the people living in the Middle East and Africa. The difference is that Elijah Muhammed is their messenger. Some may say that the Nation of Islam is a man made religion. But I would tell them all religion is man made to an extent. Muhammed used elements of Judaism and Christianity when he created the religion of Islam. Moses was raised on African Spirituality, before creating Judaism. He was probably exposed to Amen-Ra prior to departing on his own spiritual journey. Being the Prince of Egypt, there is very little doubt that Moses was exposed to Amen-Ra. I don't think that it is coincidence that we find phrases like Amen in Judeo-Christianity. The phrase Amen is paying homage to Amen-Ra.

Well, in the beginning, they were not true muslims. The nation of islam was more of a black power movement than a religion...
But about 6 or 7 years ago, their leader (Farrakan), stated that every person in the NOI must believe there is no god but Allah and mohammad was the last messenger, do 5 daily prayers, fast during the month of Rhamadan, make the hajj, give sawms,...
So even though i still don't agree with some of their practices, if anyone in the NOI does all of those five pillars, yes, they are muslim

The Nation of Islam is at its current state a form of cult, posing as a group of people who are in the same ideals as the rest of the Muslims out there.
My understanding is that many people, who are new to this group dont really see how cultish it is.
This is probably why people like Malcolm X decided to leave it when they found out what Islam was really about.
Islamically speaking, the person who claims himself a prophet after Muhammad (may Gods greetings be on him) is actually a HUGE sinner. This is something even a 5 year old knows in Islam.
Ive no idea how they can manipulate people into believing its Islam they practice.
