Love it. Don't give them any ideas.

Insofar as the Christian advocacy of scientific method goes, I note that with over 1,300 answers, Just_One_Man's_Opinion has never asked a single question. No research and divergence of opinion required when you know it all. I wanted to send him an email to comment on his interesting answer, but Just_One_Man's_Opinion does not allow any such thing.

I only bring this up because what that whole roll call of Christian scientists signifies is the strangle hold the Church has had on science. Copernicus opened the window to the infinite skies and the Church did not like it one bit. You have to ask yourself, why not? Ptolemy was incredibly smart to tailor his (ridiculous) ideas of the planets in motion to suit the Church's demand that they orbit the Earth. Ptolemy was smart because he had to be. The Church was burning people for heresy.

And let's not forget poor Gallileo, whom the Church a few years ago pardoned for his purported heresy. That was mighty white of them.

Sigh. Do we deny the efficacy of the scientific method, huh? Well, let's see ... NO, we do NOT deny the efficacy of the scientific METHOD. What Christians often deny is the supposed righteous efficacy and accuracy of "science" that rarely if ever APPLIES the scientific method!

Take the "science" of evolution, which seems to be a FAVORITE topic of atheists on Yahoo Answers. They mock Christians for not believing in ... what? The scientific fact of evolution? LOL! The scientific methods that lead to and ultimately proved the truth? LMAO! You tell me. Where is the scientific method in the THEORY of evolution? Some dude floated a theory that denied God. Obviously it sounded good to a bunch of Atheists! They said in effect, well this theory sure as hell is better than the myth of a God; so, we'll take that! And they embraced it mightily, with not a shred of scientific evidence to prove anything! There's your scientific method at play!

Now you listen to the media and you'd think that Christians are heretics for denying the "scientific" evidence for evolution. MIND you, there is a great difference between the idea of changes in a species that occur over time (i.e., micro-evolution) AND the idea of one species turning into another (i.e., macro-evolution). Tell me about your scientific method--i.e., it is observable AND repeatable--that demonstrates that one species EVER turns into another? Maybe I missed the first study that showed that and the many follow on studies that validated those original findings. Can you remind me of those studies? Can you remind me of how rigidly they adhered to that revered scientific method? All the time we seem to hear about "the missing link." Uh ... if there is no link then it wouldn't be missing, now would it? Instead, it would be the nonexistent link. But does ANYONE ever say something even as truthful as ... "the search for the link, if there is one," or "a possible link that could prove...." No, no! This science is ALL ABOUT TRUTH. It's ALL ABOUT scientific integrity. So, with NO PROOF of anything, no use of the scientific method, they nontheless speak knowingly of THE link that they cannot prove even exists. And they mock US for our blind faith! They mock US for our lack of proof that the is a God! Okay....

Look, Christians love science. We avail ourselfs of scientific discovery every day. We believe in DNA, for example. That IS science, right? Oh, BY THE WAY, Christians believe in DNA, even though it was discovered by an Atheist, James Watson. We also believe in reproduction, cross pollenation, contour planting, irrigation, geology, radiology, pharmacology, and a LOT more science. In fact, down through history, some of the greatest scientists to ever live where CHRISTIANS, Jews, and other men of faith. We don't believe in science? You tell me! Just consider these names:

Isaac Newton - Anglican
Albert Einstein - Jewish believer
Louis Pasteur - Catholicism
Galileo Galilei - Catholicism
Neils Bohr (the atom) - Jewish Lutheran
Antoine Laurent Lavoisier (chemistry) - Catholicism
Johannes Kepler (planets) - Lutheran
James Clerk Maxwell (electromagnetic field) - Presbyterian
Franz Boas (modern Anthropology) - Jewish
Werner Heisenberg (Quantum Theory) - Lutheran
Nicolaus Copernicus (the Heliocentric Universe) - Catholic priest
Linus Pauling (chemistry) - Lutheran
Marie Curie (radioactivity) - Catholicism
Max Born (Quantum Mechanics) - Jewish Lutheran
Enrico Fermi (Atomic Physics) - Catholicism
John Dalton (the Theory of the Atom) - Quaker
Claude Levi-Strauss (Structural Anthropology) - Jewish
Lynn Margulis (Symbiosis Theory) - Jewish
Karl Landsteiner (the Blood Groups) - Jewish
Alexander Fleming (Penicillin) - Catholicism

This is by NO MEANS a comprehensive list, but you get the idea. To say that Christians don't believe in science, the scientific method, and basic logic and reason are all patently false.

Lord bless.

Piety Challenge?

Anyway, it is a narrow minded Christian who denies the "efficacy" of science, overall. Yet, the science has to be good, factual evidence leading to fact and not support for a theory, which is not fact.

Theory is based on evidence which has no definite ties. It is merely a few facts which lead to a hypothesis. Until the hypothesis can be undeniably proven, it remains theory. The study of a theory is good science, while stating a theory as fact is no more than a con.

1) What's a piety challenge?

2) Some do, but definitely not as a group.

THe scientific method can not be applied to faith.... ergo your point is moot.

I have no idea what a piety challenge is... so I can not intelligent answer that part of your question.

Looks like many of these christians don't own a dictionary and won't look up piety. Guess god didn't tell em what it means, so they don't believe that word (even though they don't understand it) Wow, sounds like christians and science.

It is Darwinist the deny the efficacy of the scientific method!
They seem to think Darwinism is exempt from that method. But they think it should still be considered a scientific fact. Go figure?!

Most Christians have no problem with science -- including evolution. It is just a bunch of nutty Christian extremists that have a problem.
