The name "England" is derived from "Engla-lond" or "land of the Angles".
"Angles (German: Angeln, Old English: Englas, Latin: Angli) were of the Ynglinga_saga descended from Yngvi and a Germanic people who migrated from present-day continental Germany (which was formerly Danish in recent times) to Britain in the 5th century along with the Frisians, Saxons and Jutes. That land was later called Engla-lond (in Old English "Land of the Angles"), thus England. They founded Northumbria, East Anglia, and Mercia. Thanks to the major influence of the Angles, the people of England are also known as Anglo-Saxons, and, of course English. A region of the United Kingdom is known by the name East Anglia."

It was named after Angles who came from Angeln in Germany in the 5th century AD, along with the Saxons,Jutes and Frisians they are the descendants of the modern English ,they invaded the country over the course of a generation and pushed the Celts into the far corners of the country where they became the modern-day Welsh and Cornish.Angleland gradually became England as the English language evolved. Why it is named after the Angles and not the Saxons who were far greater in number and probably the domiant Germanic invaders, is a question no one can really answer.

It comes from "The land of the Angles"; the Angles were an old tribe (from which we also get the modern-day "Anglo-Saxon")
