I’m a very zealous cyclist and enjoy taking on difficult challenges. My friend, Yin and I take the same route to work, which is a quiet rural road. There is a stretch of a 3 mile straightway, so I’m wondering if it is possible to keep up with her car?

Postscript: My friend, Yin drives a 2002 Honda Civic DX, with a 1.7L, 115 horse power engine and a 4-Speed automatic transmission.

To pass on my thanks, I’ve temporary placed a photo page for your viewing. Please comment.

I've heard of people hitting 30-38 MPH on their road bikes, so there's no reason you couldn't. You seem quite fit, so were Yin to keep her car under 35MPH, it is possible. Particularly if you get a good tailwind. I think it would be pretty tough keeping it up that pace for 3 miles though--six minutes at an all-out sprint pace, ouch.

It depends on how fast she drives.
