My boss is one of those people who loves to talk about herself. She never really asks how anyone else is doing, but loves to talk about herself. But that's not my problem. My problem is that I don't think she has any respect for me. My biggest clue to this is that she never listens to me (if I ask her a question, she often simply doesn't answer. Not in a blatantly rude way, but as though she just isn't paying attention to me at all). Or, even worse, if I am talking to her along with a co-worker, she NEVER looks at me. She only looks at my co-worker. It's like I'm not even in the room-- it's that bad. My co-worker often comes to work late, has called in sick without reason, and just recently started her job (around the same time I did). Arguably, her job is more necessary than mine. The company needs her more than they need me. But don't I deserve at least a little respect? I'm a naturally quiet person- is this my problem? Is that why people walk all over me? What should I do?

Yes, you are a person and should be treated as one. Respect however is earned. Maybe your boss is hard of hearing or you may need to speak up. Don't worry, it probably isn't as bad as you think. Try being more assertive, that will help you in life, since the squeaky wheel gets the oil. You need to let others know your there.

Real life > > >
Little guys rarely play football ,
Average looking people are rarely supermodels ,
AND mousy people are rarely taken seriously .

Forget the fantasies about some working paradise .
If you want to be taken seriously , learn to articulate with confidence . ( Not shrieking but in a mature tone like a CNN newscaster or something )

Whining about being ignored will have you still whining at 50 yrs old in some dead end job .

If you really want to respect , grow a backbone and get it . They don't just give it away free .

Sorry to be blunt , but this is reality we're talking about .
