If I was 17 I would just go. The way she is acting she is going to totally lose him when he turns 18 and he will never see her again. She needs to wise up fast. A boy needs his father at that age.

Your nephews mother is going to loose this battle if it goes to court unless the father is a danger to his child. If the mother has custody and he leaves he can get into trouble unless he petitions the court and ask for assistance.
Gosh, I can't stand parents like this.
The bot has a right to live where he wants now and if he does it the right way the court will support his decision.
good luck and god bless

There is the issue of legal custody. The parent w/parental custody has the responsibility of caring for your nephew--and you probably need to stay out of it. Often, when the custodial parent has rules that the child does not like, h/she wants to switch to the other parent. This would be a mistake, as a teenager MUST finish h/her education; learn to accept limits; develop means with which to earn h/her own living and THEN at 18, certainly is free to visit/live w/whom they chose!!

There might be legal issues if the kid just runs off to his father. But I'm sure the father could get the kid if he went to court about it.
Or the kid could do a thing called emancipating. Then he would be treated like a adult and could go live where he pleased.

tell the father not to allow that. he could get into some major trouble. the father needs to petition to the courts to get custody. if he takes custody without a court order, he could end up in jail. get a hearing based on shortened notice since he is 17. because if she is as anal as you describe, she will call the cops. keep things as neat as possible.

Yep, he can. The father can go back to court with the son and the son will tell the judge he wants to live with the father. It is no longer up to her....sorry He is old enough to make his choice.

WELL AT HIS AGE HE WILL KNOW WHO HE WANTS TO BE WITH, SO LET HIM CHOOSE, SHE CANT STOP HIM BUT IF SHE TRIES TO KEEP RULING HIM SHE WILL LOSE HIM IN TIME. GOOD LUCK.
