You are correct from an engineering/ safety standpoint. A lift-kit and those 33inch wheels would simple be too much for the original truck's suspension, transmission, etc. Besides that, at any time that you change or modify your tire sizes( I can only assume the truck has the standard factory twenties on it) that much, you have to not only have the speedometer re-calibrated and possibly change out the transmission drive/driven gears, you also have to know that the truck will now consume even MORE gas than before. I'd just go for the new truck myself.

if you get a good lift from a reputable builder such as tough country or my favorite but expensive Kore Racing they have took in to account the geometry of the truck and 2 inches is much at all and 33 are pretty mild. I run 35s on my Ram and i just have the Kore Recon system and i have no problems so running 33s with a 2 inch lift wont effect much u will lose millage but thats the price you pay. I would also get a 4x4 if possible that way your not just all show.

I have a 05 1500 2x4 put a 3" lift in the front 4' rear am running 285 x70x17 BF at/ko 11.5 wide work great with the 3.9 v6 auto the over all height is 6" higher you have to look under the truck to see if it's a 2x4 .The 33 are a bit much as that's the size on my 04.5 diesel dodge 4x4 an that's 10mph off on the speedo. You will lose your fuel milage with that large of a tire. 30 or 31 max 11.5 wide.

Would'nt do it on a 2wd. I've seen some wicked 2wd Rams though. I would rather spend the money on a cold air kit or the Mopar computer upgrade. Exaust too! But you didnt say if it was the 318 or 360. Either way these upgrades are relatively cheap and simple enough. Then later get the Magnum r/t heads (found on r/t Dakotas) and headers... ok ok just keep it simple :)

it is easier to lift a 2wd than 4x4. no a 2in lift won't hurt it if you put too big of tires on it they will rub on the suspension/ wheel wells when you turn tight.
