Rose (i.e., pink) used to be used on one Sunday in Advent (third Sunday, if my feeble memory serves me properly) to express joy and expectation of the coming Savior. I don't think it's been in use for quite a while, though.

Also, blue is sometimes used as an alternative to purple for Lent and in some places for feasts of the Blessed Virgin. I don't think it's been retired, but it's no longer used much except in some places like the Phillipines.

Edit:

Black is still an option for funeral Masses, and red is worn on the feast days of martyrs. Purple is sometimes worn at funerals, or, if the deceased is young or from an Asian culture where white denotes mourning, white vestments can be worn.

I don't recall having seen pink (OK, dark pink/rose, but still PINK) vestments anytime during recent Advents.

It probably depends on the place. I've never seen black or blue vestments around here, but someone said blue's used in the Philippians. People were talking about how they don't see rose, but my priest wears Rose when called for (Advent). If you have a few days you might want to ask the people at http://www.ewtn.com

They still wear the same colors that go back to Innocent III (1198—1216). The Pope's colour isn't actually white, which is what we see all the time, -- it's red. The reason? There was once a Dominican Pope, who wanted to wear his white Dominican cassock. After that all popes followed in tradition.

I've also heard that black isn't being worn anymore in Canada, but since I don't live there ....

I would hazzard a guess at it being red
due to the negative thoughts many have with the colour
anger , passion , blood etc

if memory serves me well , this colour was taken out of some churches

ahh I stand corrected
