What? Then you'd be like the rest of the civilised world.
As per the site below most EU countries have 16 as the legal drinking age and most of the rest of the world is at 18.
USians breed the most undisciplined youth (and obviously the least trustable) cos they have the highest age of consent in the world at 21.
It amused me when I was in Vietnam in 69 we soldiers from Oz weren't old enough to vote but we we were old enough to drink - poor Seppos weren't old enough to do either.

The reason that the government gives for having the drinking age at 21 is pretty insane if you stop to think about it. They claim that they can legally discriminate against adults aged 18-20 because the law "saves lives". By that logic, they should raise the drinking age to 65 or 85. The law that sets it at 21 is obviously totally unfair but the government can get away with it because most people that are 18-20 don't bother to vote or get involved in politics. They also don't have enough money to give big campaign contributions to politicians.
The politicians created this law to make the fundamentalists happy, and they did it at the expense of 18-20 year olds because they knew they could get away with dumping this crap on people that are that age.
All the fundamentalists that talk about how bad alcohol is are such morons. Wake up idiots - Jesus made wine! Jesus actually commanded his followers to drink wine at the "Last Supper"! These people are too dim to even remember what their own religious beliefs are supposed to be.

bearing in mind that personal willingness to exercise "responsibility" might well be enhanced IF:
"yes" ... most people in US actually drink alcohol well before age 21 (of those who *do* choose to) ... decriminalizing this behaviour would decrease contempt for the legal system.
just a hunch, but that which leads to a greater amount of 'good feeling" about the society in which a person lives is very likely to increase the overall happiness of that same societty.
Happiness is "a good thing"

I can't comment on whether it should or not (as I'm not from the USA), but it will never happen. If any politician suggested lowering the drinking age he/she would immediately be branded as an irresponsible fool. So no politician ever will.

yes, I don't drink, but I believe there would be less trouble if kids learned sooner. If it's legal, it's less appealing when you're younger. Your an adult anyway, and you vote about taxes on alcohol. I think you should have the right to drink responsibly if you want. All the ones who would drink before their 21st anyway. It would just be legal.
and correction to those who think drinking is bad because God doesn't like it. That's not the case. you can drink, but not get DRUNK!

No, but I think the driving age should be raised. Lowering the legal limit for alcohol isn't going to make alcohol abuse go away.
EDIT: Meshugga, that age limit hasn't stopped many soldiers yet. They have no problem getting alcohol. In the case of soldiers that young, believe me, alcohol creates far more problems than it solves; in this case, experience with such things supersedes an idea which otherwise sounds good, but isn't in practice.

No if anything they should raise it to 25 heres why... The human liver is not even fully developed at 21 and at 25 has reached its full development. The earlier someone starts drinking the more adverse side effects it has on the liver.

There should be no restriction at all. In Europe anyone can drink at any age.

I agree with the idea of raising it to 40, provided the drinker's parents are both willing to come along to testify as to the drinker's age.

18. 21. Doesn't matter. There is no difference mentally or emotionally between the ages.
