sweetie ... Spiritualism began in the USA
In Hydesville California
however , I am not sure how this went down with such a Christian nation
but it became more popular in the UK and France
so perhaps it was more a matter of , who could admit to seeing spirit
and not about the UK having more spirits
edit
blk has a very valid point about the leylines
seems most people are confusing spirit with ghosts

I haven't been to the UK, but as someone who has seen a number of spirits in various parts of the US, I can say that they are here. Most people don't have their eyes open to such things in the US. I'm not sure why. Maybe there's a genetic predisposition toward being able to see such things. Several members of my family have seen a variety of different other-worldly things here in the US. We tend not to tell anyone outside of our family and not even some of them.
(As for those who say, "England is older," that's not true. Native Americans are not to be forgotten. They've been here for thousands of years.)

England had been much more densely populated per capita throughout history than america... more people dying would call for more spirits i suppose. Plus, a lot of the U.S. has been recently constructed, versus the older ways of England.

For the simple reason that most parts of the British Isles are open-minded to spirits as well as fairies, leprechauns, and elves. They don't think it's "weird" to see ghosts like we do in America--they think it's a common occurence. And if they DO have such an experience, they won't vehemently deny it to themselves or others like Americans will.
The truth is, spirits show up everywhere in equal numbers--there aren't "population densities" for areas when it comes to spirits. It's just about who is open to seeing them, and superstition and folklore is so prevalent in the British Isles that they are completely open to seeing them. If Americans would open their minds, they would most likely see spirits as well, but as you can probably tell by the many Bible-thumping fundamentalists we have on this section of Answers, we aren't a very open-minded people. Therefore, we don't see them because we dont' want to nor believe in them.
Except small children--they are so open and innocent that they haven't been bogged down by society telling them "fairies don't exist" and "there's no such thing as ghosts," even though we may have a kid ourselves who is fully convinced that they saw an elf. Maybe these things do exist, maybe they don't? We can't say. But our children, until they get to a certain age, KNOW they exist--just like adults exist in God. There is no physical evidence, it's based on faith. If we raise our children agreeing with them that they ARE in fact seeing fairies and spirits, they'd probably see them as they got older as well.

England is not older...
People have been living in the North and South American continent for 10,000-12,000yrs. You seem to forget the native peoples who were here before the Europeans came.
Stupid question btw....

There just as many hee in the usa. The only reason people think there are more is because of that dumb show most haunted. You can soooo tell it's fake. And no one can count how many ghosts there are.
