I own a transmission shop, a race car & truck. First let me say the shift is pretty normal. My truck has a shift kit in it, and when it shifts you would think the driveshaft would fall out because it shifts so hard. A transmission that doesn't have a firm shift, is one that is sought after. Most people think a firm shift is bad, but not so. Most transmissions have built in slip in them to make them shift smooth. The shift is cushioned by a spring inside the accumulator, and if you think yours is shifting too hard, then have it checked out for this spring being broke, or the line pressure being too high. A bad throttle position sensor can cause the shift to do this too. Having the fluid & filter changed can sometimes help this, but it may not either. The computer uses information from the throttle position sensor, and the speed sensor to determine the amount of line pressure to use for the shift, or how hard the solenoid makes the shift. If after changing the fluid & filter it still does it, then I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse over time. If you are getting off the gas pedal at about the same time it shifts, it will shift hard sometimes, and yes this is how they are. As I said, I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

The second gear clutch and gear shift band do take a bit more abuse than the others do. This can give you that clunking feeling and that slow to shift into second and even third gear sometimes feeling. Do yourself a favor: #1 Get a T-Tech transmission flush followed by a filter change and a band check(they can check the bands without taking the transmission apart too). #2 Call the dealership and see if they have an update in the transmission control unit that can smooth out the 1-2 gear shifting roughness. The main reason for the rough times are hundreds. It's mostly caused by people using the car as a drag racer at stoplights most of the time that causes this problem though.

This condition is considered normal by General Motors.I had an 04 sierra also, bought it brand new when I worked as a tech for a dealer.I looked into it through GM's technical assistance and they explained that it is caused by the programing in the transmission control module and there is no update for it yet.You will be informed by GM if and when they update the software.

There should be a PCM update for the 1-2 shift. Check with your local dealer. Will probably cost you about an hours labour.

had '99 GMC Yukon that did that through all gears. i called the dealer to find out how to remedy the problem and they said about the only thing they can do is replace the transmission.it has got to do with the fluid pressure in the tranny. i sold my SUV . couldn't deal with it .
