The Royal 22e Régiment is an infantry regiment, and the most famous francophone organization of the Canadian Forces. The regiment comprises three Regular Force battalions, two Primary Reserve battalions, and a band, making it the largest regiment in the army. The ceremonial home of the regiment is La Citadelle in Quebec City, where the regimental museum is housed. The regiment is nicknamed the Van Doos, a corruption of vingt-deux, French for "twenty-two." The regiment's RHQ is located in Quebec City, with all three of its regular battalions stationed at various bases in the province of Quebec. The regiment serves as the "local" infantry regiment for Quebec.

It depends what happens in the next sitting of the Commons after the summer recess. Canada has only about 80 thousand in its defense forces. So, any increase in casualties has a more profound effect than in other nations.
I don't see the Bloc Quebecois leading the charge from the opposition benches. Quebec was the site of war resistance in both World Wars and the Tory front-benchers would be quick to leap on that historical fact. The "grits" have a better chance at bringing this up, since no once can ever question the contribution Canadian forces made on various UN peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations in the past. The " Grits" also had their fellow in that house on Sussex Drive when Canada committed to the NATO operation in Afghanistan. The NDP? Sorry, but the neo-socialists in that party don't make headway on most items.
Even though I'm a citizen of the U.S., I hope my input helps.

Stephen Harper is looking for a majority in the next election. I suspect that he'll eventually pull the troops. In fact, he's all but announced it officially.

I have such mixed emotions about this. I think that Canadian troops are actually doing some good there; on the other hand, the British and the Russians met with failure in Afghanistan, so there's no reason to believe that anybody else will have luck there.

I think that the uproar over casualties in the Vandoos will result in them being rotated home early.
Harper is between a rock and a hard place here. GW Bush on one side and seperatist Quebec on the other.

I think the Taliban are deliberately targeting the Vandoos because Quebecois hate the war. I hope the Vandoos can hang in there but their morale must have sunk because of the recent deaths
