I am not that super fat or anything, but want to get in REALLY great shape. I am 4'10" and weigh 110. I would like to try to get down to about 95 (if you check, that's a perfect BMI count for my height, or lack there of! :) I have tried the lazy way, by not eating, or by taking pills, but obviously, this doesn't work. I have been REALLY good this time. I have worked out 6 out of 7 days for the past 5 weeks on my eliptical machine for 30, 45 or 75 minutes. I eat egg whites and wheat bread for breakfast or diet oatmeal. I don't snack at all and usually only eat plain turkey or chicken sandwiches on wheat bread, no mayo, no cheese, just lettuce once in a while. I lost 2 pounds the first week, 2 the second and have been at a complete stand still since! My pants even seem tighter now than when I started. Can anyone help? I am losing hope and I am planning a trip with my kids to Hawaii early next year and don't want to scare people off the beach!

I am losing weight at the moment - simply by watching what I eat and by exercise. By exercise, I mean walking which I believe to be one of the best exercises going. I walk twice a day weather and family commitments permitting, once in the morning before breakfast, and once in the afternoon before dinner. I don't use any butter on my toast, I eat only small amounts of bread, no potatoes, heaps of vegetables and fruit. I either steam the vegetables or stir-fry in small amount of oil. I have my husband on the same diet (if you can call it a diet - it's more a complete change of eating habits). We have both lost about 5 kgs of weight in about 6 weeks. He looks even better than I do at the moment as I have more weight to lose. I am also just 5 ft tall and have had a weight problem on and off since having children. I do know from experience that it is what I eat that is always a problem with me - so I am being extra careful with our meals now. My husband is also type 2 diabetic and this new eating regime is doing him a power of good. We don't eat packet foods, mainly fresh. Instead of having 2 slices of bread in the morning, we have only one with a piece of fruit. We have just about halved our intake of calories over the weeks and we both feel a lot better for it. I hope this is of some help to you. I must also tell you that losing weight is not an instant thing, it may take a while, but stick to it (as I have to) and the results will be worth it, not just for the look but mainly for health reasons. We also take spirulina powder every morning with our breakfast - just 3 grams each in juice - not the best taste, but you get used to it. We have been taking spirulina for over 4 years and couldn't do without it now. It is full of all the vitamins, minerals, etc that you need for energy etc. Get a pamphlet from the health food store or look it up on the net. Good Health.

The reason why you have not lost anymore weight after the first few pounds is because you are still probably doing the same type of rountine exercise. Doing the same rountine over and over again doesn't challenge your body--it does the opposite actually. You can't get too comfortable with the same rountine or else your body will hit a plateau. What I do to lose weight and it seems to work when I am not too lazy is do cardio, then weight lifting, then abdominal workouts since I have trouble with the mid section. Cardio includes running or aerobics. Weight lifting is resistance training so this will help you tone down the areas that you want to. Remember the number on the scale doesn't matter--muscle weighs more than fat. Also, it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you have portion control. Eat slowly so that you're stomache has time to tell your brain that you are full. It takes 20 minutes for your stomache to tell your brain that you're full. Hope this helps.
