United Methodism is very open to the manifestations of the Spirit -- some churches display emotional and "tongues"-filled worship; many do not. We emphasize Paul's remark that the Gifts are all given for building up the whole body of the church, not to allow individual Christians to be proud or to show off

Many Christians rely far too heavily on being "possessed by the Spirit." They claim it is a mark of authentic life in Christ. But this is a heresy started by Wesley and his followers. He called it the "second baptism" and said it was necessary to prove we have been saved in Christ.
That's why so many Christians follow the false teaching that those who are "saved" will be noticeably moved by the Spirit at some point, and the more often it happens the better.
This is contrary to the Apostolic faith. Manifestations of the Spirit like tongues rarely happens today - it was a phenomenon largely limited to the apostolic times.
The Church's unchanging teaching is the the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Holy Trinity is the sanctifier and comforter. It is the Holy Spirit that sanctifies each believer throughout his life and it is the Holy Spirit which guides the Church and guarantees that she teaches no error.
We are never promised in Scripture or by the Church, that we will "feel" the presence of the Spirit - nor is such a feeling necessary or a prerequisite to authentic life in Christ.

It was at Pentecost when the apostles where frightened they received the HOLY SPIRIT that gave them the gifts like the knowledge of the different tongues (languages) that made them go out and spread the good news in foreign countries. Everyone can receive the HOLY SPIRIT when they discover God through Jesus. It is being at one with, God and the whole of Creation.

John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Galations 5: 22-25
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

I'm always aware of what I'm doing, I'm on yahoo answers now trying to reach someone because of holy spirit. the holy spirit does not act in a way that it is obviously causing you to run around or scream at the top of your lungs, save that for a circus!

People who are full of the spirit are also known as "drunks". And yes, I've seen quite a few of those running around.
