There has to be a reason why it doesn't work.

How to figure it out:

1. Plug something else (a lamp or whatever) in the same electrical outlet. It the device works, then you know the outlet is providing power. Plug the TV back into the outlet that you now know is good.

2. If you are trying to turn the TV on with a remote control, try turning it on using the buttons on the TV. If the TV won't start up either way, go on to #3. If the TV works with the buttons on the TV but not the remote, the most likely causes are:
a. dead battery in remote
b. if the remote can control more than one thing, you may have inadvertently pressed a button to control something else, press the "TV" button on the remote and try the TV "On" button.
c. On the front of the TV there should be a "window" which receives the signal from the remote control (Usually a small rectangle that may have a reddish hue). Make sure that there isn't anything blocking the "window". There needs to be a direct line of sight between the end of the remote and the "window" on the TV.

3. On some older TVs, there may be a switch on the TV to select different video sources. If this is the case, try selecting the various inputs. This is to eliminate the possibility that the TV is working, but is set to display a video source that isn't there.

4. If you tried 1-3, and the TV still doesn't work, Try giving the TV a firm smack on the top or side with the palm of your hand.

5. If 1-4 didn't show signs of life, then your TV really has a problem. Unfortunately, if it is a old or cheap TV and is out of warranty, its probably not worth fixing. Do not let anyone who does not have training/experience in electronics take the TV apart. Almost all TV's have high enough voltages in them to cause serious injuries if they touch the wrong parts inside the case.

There is a thousand possibilities and variations on those possibilities but you can narrow down the guesswork by 75% if you tell us what type of TV it is and poss how old and which model it is etc.

Thanks Roboman , I think all the TV Techs on here should enter that fault of " The wire being loose " into their fault databases , I bet none of them knew about that !!!!!

The MOST LIKELY part that fails on ANY TV set is the Power supply, then the HORIZ output, then solder....not necessarily in that order....And certain TVs don't have the Horiz out, they have the LAMP that fails....

But that's it...the BIG 4 failures.

have you been moving it lately? because maybe when you were unplugging it you moved the wire inside the tv, therefore its not completing the circuit, meaning the tv cant turn on.
