Can someone please tell me if they know a good rent-a-car deal for Phuket Thailand?

I will be going there next year in January for a month and i was wondering if anyone knows a good rent-a-car deal.

The best i found so far is 700 dollars per month.

I am looking for a compact car (no convertible) with air conditioning and 1.5 L minimum.

Thanks!!

This is my 3rd time in Thailand so i am pretty familiar with the prices (taxis and tuc-tucs) but this time i will stay at the Phuket Laguna (i usually stay at the Novotel) so i will need transportation for going down-town.

Phuket Laguna is set quite high on the hills and i know that tuc-tuc drivers don't like driving there to much.

I would gladly hire a driver for the month, i suppose that a taxi driver (i won't be needing his services for 24/7) would be cheaper than a car rental.

call me crazy but I don't know anyone who rents a car in Phuket. Most visitors only remain in PHUKET TOWN long enough to jump on a beach-bound songthaew, which run regularly throughout the day from Thanon Ranong in the town centre to all the main beaches You are not going to be using your rented car all that much and for $700 I can think of a lot better things to do with the money. If you just use a taxi you will save big bucks and have a tour guide thrown in. But... even that is unnecessary. The local boys will be happy to take you anywhere you want to go for minimium $$$ Don't rent till you get there and check it out. I think that you will find that you don't need the car.

$500 a month is about the going rate for renting cars in Thailand. Once you get there you will see plenty of places renting cars and scooters. You may be able to haggle seeing as its for a month and maybe get for around $400. I think this is a pretty good deal on renting a car for so long. Though scooters are much cheaper at around $4 a day.
If you aint ever rented in thailand before you will also need an international driving permit (this is not a licence but a permit which validates your licence abroad). Without this alot of places will not give you a car. You will also be screwed if you in an accident without one

You can try out this webpage www.phuketgazette.com and go to their classifieds and search under Wheels and Motors. Phuket Gazette is the local newspaper so you can be sure that these are local owners. Most rental go at about 12,000 - 15,000 Baht per month, and prices are always negotiable. There are a lot of options in the classifieds as locals are always posting their advertisements here for a cheap price.

Or you can try arriving at the airport and checking out the car rental services there. But that could go for about 800 Baht per day.

Most of these rentals do cover insurance, as long as you have your international licence.

As for Laguna Phuket, it is actually not very hilly. It is on flat land right at the beachfront. Taxi drivers are perfectly fine with going there and out as it is a very very popular destination, complete with 6 hotels under the same integrated resort. It is a pretty good location, 20 minutes away from airport, 20 minutes from town, and 30 minutes from Patong cos you have to take the mountain road for that.

When i was there I saw many car rental companies on the phuket beach - in and around mc donald and starbuck.

the rate for a honda city i think was THB 1500 / day
dont know what it might be this time - as i was there 3 years ago.

or may be try budget car rental , or euro cars -
i think they have a minimum rental at THB 1000 / day.

Dia,

http://www.travade.com

I search from Jan 1-Jan 31, $865.00 US. I am not sure the days you are staying. It was from Budget Rent A Car.

Good luck

Rent a Scooter!

We hired tuk-tuks the first three days of our holiday, and wasted sooo much money - scooters are the cheapest!
