Just wondering if any of you guys would use a compact model glock such as the 19, 23 or 32 as a comp gun. Since IDPA is for self defence pistols and some customs, i would stick to the gun i carry instead of a glock 34 or 35. Does anyone agree?

Welcome to the world of competition shooting! I suggest that you decide on which firearm to bring to the match based on your mental mindset.

If you approach the match as a competition and focus on the rules to gain points to win, then use a firearm geared towards competition.

If you approach the match as training for facing real life dangers, then use your carry firearm.

I admit, the full size framed Glocks are a lot more forgiving for shooting at longer distances. However, I still shoot better with my Glock 26 than my Glock 17 due to the amount of practice I put in with it on my off time.

I have done the gamut for firearms. When I started competing in IDPA and IPSC, I wore my issued duty belt and used my duty Glock 17. As I progressed, I began to use my Glock 26 in IDPA. Eventually, I just wanted to have fun and the rote of the IDPA courses began to grate on me. On day, about 5 members of my agency got together and all brought in 5 shot revolvers to compete in. All of the “gamers” freaked out and continued to tell us over and over “This is not a BUG shoot!” We all scored on the bottom of the competition, but it was a heck of a lot of fun!

Thus, to answer your question: Yes! Stick with the Glock that you prefer to carry. The gamers may tease you, but don't worry. Shoot what you want to shoot. However, don't be afraid to switch up at times. Variety is a good thing.

Sadly, my local IPSC has folded up, and IDPA only meets on the weekends that I am scheduled to work these days. But I continue my love affair with shooting by being a SASS member.

Good luck with your shooting!

Sure you can, but some of the shooting is at 7 yards, but other times it can be 20 yards.....I have a glock 27(sub-compact .40 cal) and I can't shoot very well at 20 yards with it. A lot of guys use tricked out 1911s that cost like $2,000. But there is nothing that says you can't use a compact.

The accuracy of the Glock compact pistols your have mentioned are plenty accurate for the AVERAGE shooter to use in competition. The gun is probably more accurate than the abilty of the shooter in some cases.

I own the 23(40.) and it works quite well, so yes I would feel comfortable using it to compete.
