Because the reasoning behind the Iraq war was proven to be BS.
Ask them about the Afghan war, most vets support that one and think we should have MORE troops there as that is where the 9/11 murderers are.

they are against it because it never should have been started as it can not be won.
I am ex-special forces and a combat vet from the 1st Gulf War, I know first hand what it's like there.
They don't not want what we have nor do they do not care about equal rights or the pursuit of happiness, etc. Their culture revolves around one thing and one thing only and that is religion. History tells us many things and one thing is certain that you can not reason with religious fanatics and you can not win a war that has no battlefield. Both history and common sense tells you that.
In the world of today you can not defeat an enemy that attacks you from all sides when you are an invading force, it's impossible. The road that was safe yesterday has bombs on it today, and that's the way it is.
the US is weaker now than it was before the war started and we have less backing by other countries of the world. Everyone is tired of the US which is such a young nation forcing it's values and beliefs upon the world. Anyone that believes the US is safer today because of this war is either in denial or half retarded.

Vietnam was also a very unpopular war, and, after Nixon was elected on vague promises to end it ("Peace with Honor," 'Vietnamizing the war'), it took 4 years to get (almost) completely out. Two years later, Saigon was falling. When the next President takes office in 2009, she (or he) is not likely to do a whole lot better.

This seems hard to believe, mostly because older Vets already know that you don't knock the military during war. That's the way America used to be. Which AL was this I would like to write them and find out HOW accurate your statement is.

You should go back and show them the majority of the rhetoric you post here on a daily basis.
If you did so my conclusion would be that these very people that your talking about would be against you, not the war.
It doesnt matter really this is more than likely another story you just made up.

Because the Iraq war is pointless right now. Not a single American soldier's life is worth anything else that can be achieved there. Saddam is gone and the time for us to leave was after we captured him.

because we aren't doing any good over there. All of all soldiers are getting killed or hurt. We have no reason to be there. To help the Iraqi people get on their feet and make their country stable??? They don't want us there.....we don't want our troops there. Bush is just trying to not look stupid, by saying we should still be there...but all he is doing is killing our country.

I don't see it. The local chapters of the VFW and American Legion are not against the war.
BTW. I was deployed to Kuwait, processing troops flying back to the United States, and I never heard the soldiers and Marines state that they were against the war.
