I am not quite sure there is a 'safe' MOS; however there are people that insist that the Army is better.. the Navy.. the Air Force etc.; however if you look at all of the branches the Marines will always stand out.

Please review my other answers regarding the Marines.

Your soon to be husband chose the Marines for his own reasons - it may be impossible to change his mind. Your friend is not being a realistic. When you hear the reports of causalities they are from ALL branches.

He has chosen the best branch as far as I am concerned and you will most likely realize that later. Marines support one another, not only in wartime but all of the time. It is not that prevalent in other branches....

Support him because he has made the choice.. this could be a 4-year term or career.. but DO NOT listen to your friend.. It is a choice he has made.. and now your choice is whether or not you support him... your friend is not in this equation.

I know this is hard.

I wish you well.

The vast majority of soldiers in all branches of the service come home safe and sound. God bless your fiance for doing the right thing. The National Guard is over there in combat too so I don't see the difference.

Your friend shouldn't be saying that. Are your sure they are your friend? The marines is a very dangerous division of the military, however. You can't do anything is he has already joined but support him and pray for him. There are deaths in all branches of the military that get deployed overseas. It's just that the marines and the army usually go in ahead of the other guys.

Your so called friend needs to be punched in the mouth.

It depends on MOS as to what your risk factor is in general not whether one is a regular Marine or National Guard.

Ignore her, shes just being negative and ignorant, and to tell you the truth, shes not a very good Friend to be saying things like that about your fiance, maybe you should hang out with someone else and kick her to the curb.

What happens you have little control over, however, for the number of people who have been in Iraq, the number hurt is relatively low.

Don't start thinking negative thoughts as you will just be doing yourself harm! Think positively and I am sure things will turn out that way for you!

Please relax, your being upset will not help him. Many jobs in his MOS are very safe duties. Some never even leave the US. ( not saying him). He will finish his schools and do great.

If he works in MI - he'll probably be sitting at a desk in a building with about three computers around him. Generally very safe.
