Yes and No!:)

You have changed your Tomato avatar!:)

There are many legends about the tomato. For example, it has been claimed that tomatoes were not widely eaten in the U.S. until the late 1800s. It has sometimes been claimed that tomatoes were considered aphrodisiacs and so were shunned by the Puritans.

As the tomato arrived in Europe the plant became associated with poisonous members of the Solanceae family, specifically henbane, mandrake and deadly nightshade, to which it bore more than a passing resemblance.Deadly nightshade is a poisonous plant which has been used as both a hallucinogenic drug and a beauty aid in different parts of Europe. The Latin name "belladonna" means beautiful woman, in the medieval courts of Europe ladies would apply a few drops of nightshade extract to their eyes to dilate their pupils, a look considered most fashionable at the time.

But, at the same time.....tomatoes too have benefits:)

tomatoes can reduce the risk of prostate cancer
> tomatoes contain lypocene
> tomatoes are good for the eyes
> lycopene helps women guard against cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia
> lypocene is an inhibitor to heart disease

I do not know about the hybrid varieties (big, and yet not containing an iota of nourishment), but the old country type tomatoes (looked like cute marbles) which grandpa & grandma provided, in the good ol' days, were certainly nutritious.

No fruit is Kosher if grown in the right fields if your a Jew but for the rest of us tomatoes are OK.
Did you know until about one hundred years ago they were considered poisonous and were hard to find.

Why should tomatoes be a sinful fruit. Its not the fruit that cause sin. Sin is cause by man's doing. So enjoy eating the tomatoes. It hasn't caused any problems to the one eating it. But sin sure does.

Would have never believed that I would become a vegetarian...not in a million years...well maybe a million years,yeah...but not in like a thousand years...no way...ok,no more than a hundred or so.

EDIT: ok,50 years...Tops

I love tomatoes! They're good for health.
But wait, if a sinner eats them and the sinner dies,..then tomatoes are not just good,..they're better than the rest!

I can't think of a decent line that has not been taken.
I would like to say NANANANANAAAHHHH to the Hyno Poop. Who is that 87 point nogoodnik to curse at a perfectly decent gathering of Hot Tomatoes? I blow my nose in his general direction.

I had a smarty pants (nice) answer - but "Quella Bella" takes the cake. I can't compete and thanks for the 2 points.

Gerry :)

Only because Moon requested this.

Tomatoes are only sinful if you smash them upon your "significant other" in a manner not appropriate for the dinner table (or on the dinner table...hmmmm!!!).
