In the New Testament Jesus said that He did not come to do away with the law, but to fullfill it. The principles of righteous living taught in the Old Testament are still very valid. Sin is anything that you do that is wrong. There is only one sin though, that will cause you to not go to heaven and that is to reject the free gift of Salvation offered by Christ. Once you recieve Salvation you become free from the Old Testament law of death for you sins. Believers in the Old Testament had to sacrifice the blood of animals to pay for their sins. New Testament believers have the blood of the sacrificed Christ to pay for their sins. This may sound complicated, but it is really simple when you study the New Testament and the Old Testament together.

the old testament cannot be completely done away with, it was the foundation and if you tear a foundation out from under a building, the building will not stand. there are some ordinances that we are not held accountable for such as the sin and peace offerings, some of the dietary restrictions and so forth but the law was fulfilled in the new testament and it still continues to apply to us today. not that we are under the law.

Ah, but it is not the LAWS of the Old Testament that are done away with, only the punishments for breaking them.
Example: in the Old Testament, if you were guilty of adultery, you would be stoned to death (not "stoned" in THAT way either ;)).
But now thanks to Christ, you can choose to (a) repent and follow him to God, or (b) die and go to Hell.
However, note that many of the Old Testament laws were intended only for Jews (eg: don't eat pork or shellfish, sew tassles on the corners of your clothing, etc, etc).
I can offer no specific sources on this topic. How I know about it is simply because I started out a Gentile believer in Judaism, learnt from that, and then moved more towards Christianity after a few years. But you can find out all about it for yourself if you google for info with enough persistence.
As for what the definition of sin is, I guess it would be "That which is contrary to what God proclaims is righteous", and perhaps anything else your conscience is uncomfortable with too. But to an extent that is something only you can determine for yourself and it's between you and God.

For the Jews, there is no such things as the Old Testament and New Testament. The Jews consider the only the books in the Christian Old Testament bible as the word of God. They do not recognize the Christian new testament books.
For non-Jewish or non-Christians, the Old and New Testament books rubbish.

Well, some of us see the coming of Christ as a whole new covenant that replaced the old one. Now if you don't see it that way, that's fine. We're all trying to find the truth that brings us closer to THE TRUTH if you see what I mean.
I usually define sin as a virtue corrupted. We're supposed to be angry at injustice. But being enraged when someone takes our parking spot isn't anger at injustice; it's a sin.
Eating is a necessity of life. But when we make a false idol of food, it becomes gluttony.
Making love to our beloved is an act of devotion to God. Letting sex become a meaningless fun activity with people we don't care about is a sin.
So it isn't what we do, or what we don't do. It's WHY we do what we do that makes it a sin, as I see the meaning of what Jesus taught. It's kind of hard to sum up, I hope this makes a bit of sense.

"Sin" is disobedience to God. Getting rid of the OT doesn't stop people from disobeying God.
Rom 2:12-15
12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

There is no such thing as sin. Sin is a construct of the human mind and varies according to the conventions of society. In the old testament it was a sin for menstruating women to attend church.
God's laws are universal. Loving choices bring you closer to God, choices based in fear and hate remove you further away from God.
Modern Christianity considers homosexuality a sin because of the Old Testament, but two consenting adults sharing a loving relationship are closer to God than a churchgoing Christian who hates them for it.

There is no definition for sin, because Christ died for our sins, so that makes us sinless right, sounds stupid dose it not, well in all reality there simply is no such a thing as sin it is a man made control device created by men not God. it really is important to know that the whole bible was written on here say, and we all know how some stories can be stretched.

Only the Old Testament Ordinances; which applied to the Jews anyway.

Sin is missing the mark. We all misws the mark. In a sense Jesus did away with the old tesment (the old covenenat) by giving us the New Testment (the new covenenat). Love God, Love others as yourself (all ten are rolled up nicely into these).
We all miss the mark. God has great love and mercy, for you too.
