I kind of think the Aztec religion where they tried to cut the hearts out of their human sacrifices quickly enough to hold the heart up to the sun while it was still beating is probably one of the nastiest religions I've heard of.
The Aztecs also worshiped one god where the only accepted sacrifice was children - and the child had to be crying in pain while they died or the sacrifice wasn't considered acceptable. Its pretty disturbing stuff.
Christianity and Islam have some pretty nasty stuff in their history, but I really can't think that they compare with the Aztecs as far as being bad goes.
At one point, there was some doubt about the religious practices of the Aztecs that were reported by the Spanish Conquistadors. People thought the conquistadors were just saying nasty things about the Aztecs to justify their conquest of the Aztec lands. However, as more research is done by archeologists at Aztec sites, more evidence is coming to light that the conquistadors were telling the truth. Personally, I wish the archeologists were discovering the conquistadors were lying. I hate thinking that this nasty stuff was true.
The religion of the Phoenician god Moloch was extremely horrible as well. It apparently involved throwing children into a furnace that was shaped like the god. Its really hard to imagine how anyone could come up with things that were so sick.

The darkest religion is nihilism. What is more dark and depressing than believing in nothing? Although not technically a religion, it still requires belief and there many books about it that people read as if they were the bible.

From reading the answers you already have it would be any religion that you do not believe in. Any religion that is not yours is a cult and a very dark religion. I believe like the man said, they are all false religion.
Depends on who you talk to. Those involved in the Viet nam war came home hating Buddhists. Because they were so violent. Which according to history they were pretty bad.

There are several beliefs in which human sacrifice is practiced in order to appease the gods or god/deity/power.
. In small secret sects -- and until recently in remote tribes-- this probably still occurs (in secret) in many places of the world.
In ancient times it definitely was much more common than today, and was rather widespread.
On the other hand, religious beliefs and secular ones have caused some real dark wars that caused tremendous loss of life...communists for example claim they are of no religion, yet plenty died in their movement...

Western religion at it's worse is the Christian majority Christianity as most are lead to believe it is a Literal work as opposed to a Symbolic work; while it is read symbolicaly the messages are clear and make Perfect sense; while read Literaly they are filled with Confusing and Contradiction.
In the East we have the Muslim minority, a much smaller group than Christianity that elects to take the Koran as literal; within thier cultures they "act out violently" in "Gods" name to a "God" they do not know.

Christianity
It has brought more violence, war, hatred, discent, anger and over all negative influence to the world than any religion in the history of religion. And there is FACT to back that up, plenty and plenty and plenty of fact...most of it from the Bible its self.

I would say Nihilism - at the risk of invoking the cursed double-negative, you can't get much darker than Nothing :)

Amos 5:18 says:
The day of the LORD is darkness and not light.
I wonder who he's talking to in 5:1, about LAW.
In contrast the day of God is light and not darkness.
God said let there be light, not light and darkness.
2Peter said we shld hasten to that day of that God.
And if the third day is as the seventh day is the last day,
and if Revelation prophecy takes place on seventh day
and it's now the last "day" shewdown of LORD vs God,
to what end would the day of the LORD be for you all?
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
