Is it like a great novel you can't put down, or like a textbook in a subject you don't really get into?

It depends. I have not read the whole thing - for sure. And I got LOTS of flack the other day when I referred to Leviticus as a PERSON. (I learned that Leviticus is a book - and I must say - some people were less than kind when informing me of my ignorance) So anyway - I can't say much about the bible.

However - the old testament is FULL of violence, as I remember it. People killing each other - stabbings - heads chopped off - eyes poked out - that kind of stuff.

When somebody is trying to make a point - or guide me in some way - and they reference a part of the bible - I enjoy reading it and getting what I can from it.

I don't see it as a novel or a textbook. More like a reference book.

You might consider this a fence riding answer but it's true. I approach the Bible like it's the textbook for my favorite subject. Parts of the Bible, like the Book of Ester, are novel like but others are rather technical and require thought and study. It's a challenging book to read.

Yep...it is pretty good...took an upper division English class in college called "The English Bible as Literature"...The King James Version was the only textbook, and the first day, when the professor explained this was an "English" class, and he was not going to address the "holiness" of it, he was going to concentrate on the good literature that was in it...

Half the people in the class got up and walked out...I stayed (cause I'm The Devil...just kidding) and I'm glad I did...enjoyed the class very much, and got a B-...cause I'm The Devil...just kidding again...)

Since then I've read it several more times...so when the religious zealots thump the Oh Holy Moly book at me...

I'm ready...

It really depends on several things for me. First being...what book in the Bible I am reading. Some are more interesting (in my opinion) than others. Then there's whether or not I am "in the mood" to read. Not just the Bible, but anything. Another factor is whether or not I'm tired. I find that if I read at night, I am not absorbing as much as I would like.

All in all, I would have to say that I really get a lot out of the Bible. I honestly have to say that I Need to read it more. There is so much valuable information packed in those pages.

I was a believer when I read it, so I was very interested. But it was still more like a textbook. Now I don't even own a bible anymore.

How interested am I whilst I read the Bible?

Fascinated! But sometimes, often I guess I should say, I am astounded, disgusted, offended, amused, and saddened, but at the same time, intrigued by the lives of folks who lived in the backwater of civilization during the Bronze Age, and, in the NT, during the First Century of our time.

Depends on what part...the whole begat stuff...is textbook, and honestly, I skim over....

Some of it is very interesting...Song of Solomon...kinda like a harlequin romance novel....a little steamy...

Revelation, kinda weird....and I picture a Stephen King type writing this, just to freak people out....

I try to remember that while inspired by God...the Bible was still written by humans.....

I liked the stories of King David, Job, Moses, and Jesus!

I once ask God a question in a chapel, I was kinda down, depressed, where I work, no one seem to believe in God. When I open the Bible up, God spoke to me through the Bible..... God was telling how He freed the Jews, and all the miracles he done in front of their eyes, and feed them from the sky, and still they did not believe in Him.

Some parts of it are cool. Like David and Goliath. I like that story. For starters, it's a story about standing up to a bully. Goliath got his jollies out of pushing the Israelites around just because he could. Then came David---a young boy that almost nobody took seriously who came and challenged him, and beat him with only a sling and a rock. It's a classic underdog story!

I love to read the Bible but I think the New Testament is more interesting because alot of it has things concerning my christian walk.
