SPAM - South Pacific Army Meat or
SPiced hAM
the first one is called that because of the Hawaiian LOVE of it. You can actually get SPAM at a McDonald's there.
It's huge!
As to what's in it...it's better if you don't know. The old joke about what's in hot dogs being lips and asses, isn't that far off.
As to whether or not it's good for you? I've been eating it all my life and am doing fine. My blood pressure is a bit high, but that's due to over eating, not SPAM. My cholesterol levels are good too. Like all good things, partake in moderation. Yeah right! If I lived by that code, I wouldn't be fat!
But SPAM is good.
According to the SPAM web site, www.spam.com
it is made of "ham, pork, sugar, water, a little potato starch, and a mere hint of sodium nitrate to help it keep it's color."

Spam luncheon meat is a canned precooked meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. The labeled ingredients in the Classic variety of Spam are: chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added, salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite.
It isn't the worst thing you could eat but not exactly healthy. You'll be okay, though :)

I've actually got a can right in front of me..... here are the ingredients
Pork with ham. salt, water, modified potato starch, sugar, sodium nitrate. Yikes. I wonder if the first ingredient is actually pork fat. In a 2 oz. serving, there's 180 calories, 16 grams of fat, 40 mg. cholesterol, 790 mg. sodium, and 7 g. protein. Not exactly good for you. And that's if you're sharing a small can with 11 of your friends! YUMMY!

Several Pieces Assorted Meat. :~) A long time ago, it was said that it's spiced ham. I think it's what's left over from the pig smashed together with a lot of salt and gelatinous stuff. Used to eat it as kid and then thought about it. Anything that has that long of a shelf life............HM

anything in a porker that isn't used for something decent
(including the squeal) has a taste all of it's own (I like it
fried w/ eggs for breakfast) and is a good substitute for
meat , especially if you don't have refrigeration or smoked
meat. Don't know that it's good or bad for you -- it's food.

pork, kinda like bologna is for beef. Check the can, but my guess is that it holds an ungodly amount of fat.
