This is the old argument that if God is good and all powerful, then there would be no evil in the world.

Since there is evil, some conclude that there is no God because this “proves” He is not God.

The argument says, if He is all powerful, yet he chooses to allow evil to exist, then he is not all good (therefore not God) or…

If he is all good, but cannot eliminate evil, then he is not all powerful and therefore He is not God.

Either way, the skeptics conclude that there is no “God”.

But, how do you define evil?

If “evil” is just a function of the human mind (dislikes, preferences, opinions, a majority vote, etc.) then this proves nothing about God.

One person (or group of people, nation of people, race of people) may say one thing is wrong, or evil, while another group would at the same time say it was good.

The Nazi government said, and had soldiers convinced that it was good, to torture and kill Jews. The British and American governments and people disagreed. Who was right? If “evil” is just based on opinions,a subjective human standard, then there is no true, objective right or wrong.

Again if evil is just a function of the human desires, then this says nothing about whether there is or is not a God. For example, if I am wearing a red shirt and I pass someone on the street who thinks red shirts are evil, they may say “Look there is evil in the world, therefore I know there is no God!”

I may then pass someone who thinks red shirts are good! That person may look at the same shirt and say “Look how much good is in the world! Because of this I know there is a God!”

Neither of these people have proved their point because their conclusion is not based on an objective standard! It is based on their opinion.

If, however, there is a standard of evil that transcends subjective human feelings, if some things are intrinsically evil, a standard of evil that transcends human feelings, if there is a “higher standard” of what is good and evil, THEN there is proof about God!

If there is a higher standard of evil, then there must also be a higher standard of good! There must be also a source for that standard! That higher standard, and the source of that standard, is God! The existence of a higher standard proves there is a God!

The conclusion, therefore, must be intrinsic evil exists, therefore I know God exists!

One final point, God is dealing with the problem of evil by providing a plan by which those who wish to come to Him can be saved. Also, there will be a time when judgement will come and all that is evil will be dealt with.

We are all individuals. Sex, like religion, is a very private thing.. I know you are having it but I am not really interested how you do it and with whom (no offence). Likewise, the religious beliefs of each and everyone of us. You think there is no God and that is OK with me... I don't care what you believe. I believe there is a God and so that should be OK with you. It HAS to be OK with you.
Secondly, I don't believe in the thing that things happen "for a reason". They don't happen for any reason. God gave us the choice to go left or to go right, to do right or to do wrong. He will reward us for whatever WE CHOOSE to do, right or wrong. To say that because some of us abuse and kill children it must mean that God does not exist, well.... What is the connection there ? And is there a difference between the baby being abused and killed on the other side of town and the babies being killed in, say Iraq ? Aren't both just as evil ?!
Men is the symbol of evil, if you ask me. Before man, in the time of the dinosaurs there was no such things as revenge, greed, avarice,

It depends on what you mean by god. I seems to me that there has to be some entity or force that has laid down the laws by which physics and chemistry function and which have resulted in the universe and the conditions on earth whereby life can start and evolve. So this could be "God" I cannot however see any logic to the idea that there is some entity that has any interest in any human or animal on a personal level. Okay an 18 month old child has been abused. That is dreadful but we as humans have to deal with that situation because there is nothing else that will

I am a Christian and I know people ask this sort of thing all the time. Why is there suffering? Why do the innocent suffer?

It's called sin. That's why. The world was perfect when God created it - read the first bit of Genesis - and there was no suffering until satan came as a serpent and made Eve sin.

God doesn't 'let' us suffer. Because there is sin, there is suffering, and nobody is truly 'innocent' - we have all sinned. If there was no suffering, there would be no compassion, we would not know what being saved from suffering was like.

I hope this helps answer your question. Even people like me who have a strong faith don't know all the answers and we sometimes get things wrong. But God doesn't like suffering, it is a consequence of sin and he hates sin.

Yes we've heard the argument before. How does the absence of a God make it any better? The whole "why does God let it happen" debate was set out about 2,500 years ago in the book of Job. Have a read and see if you can come up with anything new.

God started the ball rolling and man, through free will, determines the direction it takes and Satan is in the middle of it all. All the words I can write or the Scriptures I could list will not sway you if your mind has already concluded that God is responsible for all the world's ills. The Bible tells us to "Be thankful in all things," but it must be noted that the context of that verse clearly points out "...all things which or OF GOD." Obviously, "all things" are not of God thus we have good people suffering bad things. Those things are not attributable to God.

sinful man is the cause of all the bad things. before man sinned there were no diseases. or bad weather or anything to fear. there was no death. God created a perfect world but we have destroyed it with our sin. when babys are born they have sin they have to be taught how to behave when they are born they dont know how to share they need to be taught to share. and they need to be taught how to mind parents etc. babys are of the world and anything that is of the world is of sin. all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

God was 'created' thousands of years ago in the minds of people that required something to believe in. Since that time many millions of people have followed suit - everybody believes in something - but truly if you need to believe then are you saying you really don't know?
