It is a city law, and any town with any population at all has the ordinance that no gun can be disharged within city limits. That means any air rifle, and paintball guns. I dont know about airsoft guns though.

I live in Floyd County, Virginia and have a 180 yard rifle range in my back yard. My closest neighbor is over a mile away.I shoot whatever I want here, but if you live in a city it's probably illegal to shoot there so be careful.

Depends on local law, we don't even know what country you are in. The local cops would know and asking would be seen as a responsible thing, not a crime in itself.
Make sure you don't shoot out of the bounds of your property though, that's considered 'bad' in most places.

I guess it all depends on your neighbors.If they have nothing better to do they will call the police.When I was a kid I used to shoot air guns and Bows all the time in my yard and I never got any complaints.

some areas its fine some it isn't.you can practice anywhere people can't hear you.Perhaps the army improvised munitions guide could help steer you in the right direction
