It depends on how short of a time period your talking about.... in a matter of days or weeks-probably not, but it is definately possible over time. I used to be ablr to take penicillian, but then one day when I was 18 & sick I took it and not only did it not help, but I had a terrible rash over my entire body that itched like crazy. I had taken just fine just about 4 months earlier. If you do have an allergic reaction to ibuprofen there are many other medicines your doctor can give you instead. As far as OTC your other options are acetaminophen (tylenol), or naproxen. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

i'm surprised ibuprofen gave you an allergic reaction...but you should have told your doctor that you were allergic to that and they could have given you an alternative. there is no reason why a good doctor would give you a pain medication you are allergic to. if you really can't take it, try acetaminophen (tylenol) or go back to the doctor and ask for something else. oh..and if you still stick to the ibuprofen, don't take it on an empty stomach..it can upset your stomach and is bad for the lining.

yes it is ,it happens more often then Dr's care to admit,I take meds a lot, every day for health issues I have and have ,after month and even years become allergic to them, and have to find something else,I use to be able to take ibuprofen, then I stated to swell all over when I took it and also was getting a rash from it.and if you have done this before with a medication chances are you could do it again with something else
