Every person must know his limitations and in this case your friend must know when ask and when keep his mouth shout.You have the right to choose before you have a date.If your friend was thinking otherwise, is your friend mistake and not yours.Don't feel bad about the matter, because you're one hundred percent innocent.

No, you are being truthful and honest, why live a lie?. He will get over his hurt and still be your friend. And if he chooses not to, then its his loss.
