Because there is no separate American languages. Some not-so-educated Americans do talk about "speaking American". And a VERY irritating practice in European publishing (at least in Germany and Holland) is that books by American authors translated into the local language are often said to be "translated from the American"!! It is an outrageous and stupid, and somewhat akin to the idiocy we had here in 2001-02 of calling French fries freedom fries.

If you think about the term american in relation to language, it could mean you speak any language from South, Central or North America. So as American is a dialect of English it's better to say Engliish than United States of American.

I presume you mean speak rather than talk. The mangled version of English spoken in the usa is truly painful to the devotees of the English Language in the United Kingdom. How you can be so arrogant to try to call our beautiful language developed from Latin, french and Anglo Saxon your own is utterly breathtaking.
Incidentally I notice that the usa does not have an official language at all however English and Spanish are the most (albeit poorly)spoken.

For the same reason that in the main, Mexicans don't speak Mexican and Brazilians don't speak Brazilian. The language of the conquering country has been adopted.
America..English
Mexico...Spanish
Brazil..Portuguese.
It's lucky that Hitler's Nazis didn't win WWII or we'd be speaking German now.
By the way it's 'speak English' not 'talk English'.
