Cold compress for swelling...hot compress for general pain/discomfort.

A cold compress reduces swelling. A hot compress provides soothing relief. I presume you're referring to an injury.

Be creative! Are you asking how to get a homemade one or how to actually attach it to your skin? You can make a compress easily.... Put a wet washcloth in a gallon ziploc and freeze or for warm put it in the micro for about 10-15 secs. And be careful, micros vary!! Otherwise to apply plcae so the the sore spot is completly covered and hold on to it for about 10 minutes any longer you might burn/freeze your skin and will make yourself even more sore! REpeat as nessecary
