This last month on the news I saw reports about babies being killed. One was dumped in a toilet, the other burnt to death and one stabbed 26 times. That's only a couple...If something like that could happen to innocent babies, who never did anything to harm anyone, how can I have faith in God and pray for His protection of me and my family? What's the point in praying if something that cruel could happen to you anytime anywhere, regardless of where you (spiritually) stand with God? I know people have free will, but why do innocent people have to pay the price and why didn't God intervene? This has been something I have been struggling with for so long...The idea of having faith in God and believing in His power, but for what? I am not expecting God to pour blessings over me...just to not let something that cruel happen to me or my family. Please don't tell me there's a reason for everything and pain is temporary. That doesn't make the idea of being stabbed 26 times less frightening.

That darn free will again. Look there are alot of sick people out there. The sad thing is God gave them free will. He cannot stop them from doing wrong. He is not that kind of God. There is a reason for everything. I was giving child birth and went into a 12day comma because the doctor screwed up.Is there a reason for that? You have to look at the bigger picture. Yes I was in a comma and now I have all kinds of health problems. However no matter how bad my life gets I am still here with my daughter. I am sure somewhere down the road what happend to me is going to really mean something to someone and maybe change their life. God allows man to do the will of men. However your pain is not unheard. Maybe someone will listen to you and change. You have more power than you think. Maybe some one was on the end of their rope and maybe your words helped them climb back up. However if some things never happened you would never have been put in a position to say those things. Do you understand what I am trying to say? I hope you do and I Pray that God is with you and your family and that nothing happens to you or them. Never stop praying that would be giving up hope. We need hope to have faith!

How will not praying help?

We need to Pray, we need to also work to help us preserve a respect for life.

We are in a throw away, self-centered society. If something is uncomfortable, (like an un-wanted pregnancy) just throw it away, we have fooled ourselves (as a nation) that the individual is all that matters and justify death because of convenience.

Pray for life in ALL forms.

Look at Michael Vick the football star that tortured those dogs, yes it was terrible. I wish the same people that are outraged about that would consider what happens during a partial birth abortion. I am not condoning killing animals, just pointing out that we seem to put more value on a dog than an innocent child.

Take some action, support pro-life candidates!

At least you will feel like you are not just sitting back and waiting for something bad to happen to you!

And keep the faith.

Peace be with you!

I'm not a Christian, but I grew up in the bible belt so I feel as though I can answer this somewhat. First off, free will leads people to do as they wish. It's one of the greatest and most terrifying gifts that we have. The things that happen on earth, killing, abuse, all of these things must be lived through. Everything is a learning experience, everything has meaning, whether we want it to or not. You learn from pain and from heartache. As sad as that sounds it's just the truth. Although it would seem like a great world to live in if everything was great and wonderful, it wouldn't offer us any knowledge. Hitler taught us about genocide through the government. the inquisition taught us tyranny inside of religion. scientifically the human brain remembers the bad times more than the good. these children didn't die in vain. for every episode like that there are people waking up and deciding to do something about, motivation to make us a better people. will we all understand it, no, but we aren't supposed to. Don't look to a God to find this truth, look inside of yourself. people have done terrible things in the name of God, and they will continue to do so, and people have done great things in the name of God, and will continue to do so. Good and Evil go hand in hand, yin and yang, heaven and hell, it's all the same thing just different wording. be assured that your not the only one stumbling along lifes path, and your not the only one questioning faith. i have learned that no religion teaches you what you need to know, watch nature and you will learn much more.

I'm not sure why you think the human condition is God's fault.

This is the most illogical of all argument's against belief in God that I have seen on this forum and unfortunately its here often enough to be a drinking question.

Why would God allow (fill in the atrocity) if He is really God?

There are consequences of sin. Do innocent people get harmed by those consequences? Yes which makes it all the more horrible. Instead of whining about God doing something about it how about you doing something about it and cleaning up your act and teaching your children to keep their act clean.

If everyone started thinking about what the consequences of their sins are on innocent bystanders perhaps there would be less of these occurrences.

Oh yes and .... drink (hiccups)

If you spend word for word with me, I shall make your wit bankrupt.

Wow...why are your sights set on man and his bad deeds?

For every terrible story you hear, there are thousands of good things that happen every day that go unreported.

People give selflessly of their time, effort and money to help the less fortunate, the poor, orphaned, widows, homeless, sick...each and every day.

Believe it or not, there is more good in the world then there is bad...it is just that good is boring and does not make exciting, sensationalistic news stories....so, all you see is the bad.

I challenge you to look past man and his failings, and set your sights on the good in the world....it is really not a bad place.

You will drive yourself crazy if you constantly look over your shoulder, fearing the world. All any of us can do, is live the best life we can, help others as much as we can...leave the world a better place than we found it....and when our time comes, be ready to leave the earth. Those who do bad will reap the harvest of the seed they sow...albeit they may not reap until they stand before God...but, know in the end...we will all get our just rewards.

Yep, not a christian, but I'll answer anyway. (I speak Believese)

What would you see happen? That the toilet would not flush, or the baby would be surrounded by a glowing force-shield? Or the knife turning to dust? If innocents could not be harmed, how would one earn their time in Hell?

Free-will, with limits, is not free-will. People NEED the ability to do horrible things, and then Freedom to CHOOSE to do the right thing. It's unfortunate for the Innocent Victims, but a necessary evil.

I wish I could ease your fear. I cannot, evil runs rampant in this world. I can only show you the agent by which all fear is relieved... and that's in the promise of eternal life. There will come a day when a millenium of peace will exist on this very earth. Jesus will reign from Jeruselem for this entire millenium. I don't know when this will happen, but it will. Until then there will be wars, rumors of wars, evil, hatred, suffering, death, and pain all over this world. I don't know why God allows it... I realy don't. I do know that he loves you and offers you eternal life and a promise to live forever after you die on this earth with him, currently in heaven and one day in a new jerusalem that is being built in heaven right now, being prepaired to come down. He offers the peace and hope of knowing that no matter what happens here and now, there is hope to come. That's the best I can offer. If you want to know more... feel free to e mail me or measage me.

You haven't been stabbed, burned, or stuffed in a toilet, right? I think God has protected you pretty well. But your saying that you feel you can't believe in God because of something that MIGHT happen? Isn't that why you are praying, so it doesn't happen. I might be shot as I walk home from school. I might be robbed at night by a crack head trying to get money, I might even lose control of my car and crash and burn to death. But I won't. It might happen to others, but I have faith that God is with me and guiding me to keep me safe...

Brent up there failed to mention the millions of times prayer has helpped. Just because you weren't there when prayer worked doesn't mean it never happened

1. Humans do these horrible things not God. "He has blinded thier eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with thier hearts and turn so that I should heal them" John12:40

2. Sounds like you may have evil testing you. "Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved." Luke7:12

3. Dont loose Faith. "Then they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their redeemer." Psalm78:35

4. Prayer is pleasing to God. "The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. Proverbs15:8

5. God has intervened. "For God so loved the world thta He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John3:16

and, "who has saved us and calle us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but accourding to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began," 2 Tim 1:9

lastly, "You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." 2 Tim2:3

First of all good question... There are a lot of horrible things that happen in this world. The killing of small children, unborn children, disease, murder, and the list goes on. The Bible says that once Adam and Eve rebelled against God, sin came into this world. All of these horrible things that happen, are a result of sin in this world, and man's rebellion against God. That is why we have faith in God. To save us from this sin-----That is why Jesus came and resurrected for us. God does have a good reason for everything that happens, but the Bible says that His ways are unlike man's ways. Sometime we will not be able to understand, but we must believe that God will always love us and be with us. I hope this is of some help to you. Dont lose your faith!!!
