Karma exists, but it's not like what you probably believe. It has less to do with past life sins, and more to do with perception. It works like this:

First, you do some deliberately hurtful action. It's really only possible to do something like this if you mentally separate yourself from the one you're hurting. You can't deliberately cause pain to something that you personally identify with and love.

Ok, so now you have separated yourself from at least some of the people around you. You now live in a world where you know that other people might hurt you. This means you have to be careful so someone doesn't do the same thing to you. This makes you fearful and mistrustful of others, as you project your fears onto them. You feel like you have to defend yourself, which makes it even harder to get back to the place you used to be, where you felt connected to everything.

Thus, by committing an act of separation, you put yourself in a world where separation is the norm. The separation could be caused by anger, greed, lust, etc. but ultimately it all has the same effect: It causes you to think of yourself as separate from the reality you live in, instead of part of the whole.

For all we know, yes. For all we know, no. Karma seems to be the best simplified to a negative or positive affect of the conscience correlating with negative and positive actions, rather than a supernatural tendency for justice to be served. Equillibrium exists, balance exists, but we cannot assume that justice does from what we can observe of life.

I am inclined to believe that Karma plays a big role in our lives. Do good, and good will be visited upon you. Do bad things, something somewhere will come around and kick you in the behind.

I believe in karma, what you do comes back to you/good and bad. I believe when you purposely hurt someone whether it's by words or actions, to their face or behind their backs, it'll come back and bite you 3 fold.
